San Francisco 49ers veteran posts heartfelt goodbye message following departure after six seasons
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Rarely was Ross Dwelley a headline act for the San Francisco 49ers.

But, for the last six seasons, Dwelley was a constant in the 49ers' tight end room,

That will not be the case in the 2024 season after he followed fellow former 49ers tight end Charlie Woerner in signing with the Atlanta Falcons.

The 49ers had seemingly not made an attempt to re-sign Dwelley after his contract expired at the end of the 2023 league year. However, there were certainly no hard feelings from Dwelley as he said farewell to the Niners, only gratitude for his six-season run with the team.

In a post on Instagram, Dwelley wrote: "Thank you @49ers for the last six years of my career.

"San Fransisco gave me the best memories and experiences of a lifetime; two Super Bowls, lots of playoff runs, and a brotherhood. Grateful for my time there! Beyond excited for this next chapter of my journey. Can’t wait to be a part of the @atlantafalcons organization!!"

Dwelley's 49ers career ends with him having caught 44.passes for 518 yards and five touchdowns, his last coming in a Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. He caught two in the Niners' comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals during their run to the Super Bowl in the 2019 season.

He played in 12 games last season, though he did not feature in any of the 49ers' playoff games as they narrowly lost Super Bowl 58 to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.

Behind first-team All-Pro starter George Kittle, the 49ers other options at tight end are Eric Saubert, Cameron Latu, Brayden Willis, Jake Tonges and undrafted free agent rookie Mason Pline.
