The San Francisco 49ers are 4-0 on the road this year and the Ravens are 5-0 at home.  The Harbaugh’s (Jim and John) are going to duke it out tonight in the first ever matchup in the NFL of brothers that are head coaches.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game: When the 49ers have the ball:  The 49ers aren’t going to change anything tonight in Baltimore.  The Niners are going to come out running the ball with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter, but they will have to fight for every yard as the Ravens are only giving up 93.2 yards rushing per game and 3.3 yards per carry.  Alex Smith will likely throw a little more than usual in this game, so the line is going to have to give him time to throw the ball.  Smith will likely keep his TEs (Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker) heavily involved in the short passing game.  The Niners will also need WRs Michael Crabtree and Kyle Williams to stretch the field a little bit in this game. Alex Smith is much more than a game manager for the San Francisco 49ers

27-year old QB Alex Smith is getting the bad rap of being a “game manager” for the 49ers.  I have even called him that, but, he has been much more than that.  Smith has played in 10 games for the Niners so far this year and he has completed 171 of 274 passes (62.4%) for 1,976 yards with 13 TD passes and 4 INTs (93.9 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 34 times...

No single answer would have worked for Ravens' blitz

We don't know how 49ers quarterback Alex Smith spent Black Friday. But if he wandered into any stores, and quickly was engulfed by large men in black Ravens jerseys, would you really be surprised? Smith offered several lingering images in Thursday night's 16-6 loss to Baltimore: repeatedly...

Ravens' defense stuffs Niners

San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith said it's difficult to prepare for the Baltimore Ravens defense in a normal week. To have just three days to watch film and digest the Ravens' myriad of stunts and blitzes makes the task even more difficult. "It's tough to get ready for a defense like that in a short week," Smith admitted. "They do so many things."...

Niners Get Blitzed in Baltimore

Often, Thanksgiving is about eating too much. Such was the case Thursday night in Baltimore when the Ravens’ blitzing defense feasted on San Francisco, sacking Alex Smith nine times – tying a franchise record – in a 16-6 victory in the first duel of sibling head coaches in the NFL. In the end, John Harbaugh’s Baltimore defense – even without injured...

Baltimore Ravens 16, San Francisco 49ers 6

The defense was awesome last night for the Ravens as they sacked Niners’ QB Alex Smith an amazing 9 times!  Safety Bernard Pollard and LB Jameel McClain led the way for the defense tackle wise with 8 apiece last night.  DT Cory Redding (5 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 4 QB hits), DT Haloti Ngata (4 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits) and OLB...

Bang-bang play creates costly 49ers penalty

The 49ers didn't get many opportunities to score on the Ravens' defense Thursday, and one play from their 16-6 loss might haunt them. Ted Ginn Jr. hauled in a 75-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith early in the second...
