The San Francisco 49ers were very much in need of a strong showing when they faced the St. Louis Rams in a prime time game on Thursday night. They were playing without two of their best defenders. Aldon Smith and Patrick Willis were both out of the game. Despite that, the 49ers got a 35 – 11 win in St. Louis. Navorro Bowman took it upon himself to rise to the occasion. He played lights out in this game. The 49ers needed to get back to their identity which is playing physical football by stopping the run and running the ball with authority. The Rams have been very bad against the run over the last couple of weeks. The right side of the defense is vulnerable and the 49ers exploited it. Frank Gore got back on track against the Rams. Greg Roman made it a point to get him his touches early. He had 20 carries for 153 yards and one touchdown which went for 34 yards. That is more than the total rushing yards for Gore over the first three games. Kendall Hunter chipped in with a 29 yard touch...

San Francisco 49ers: Why they are 2-2

Colin Kaepernick completed 15 of 23 passes for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Niners 35-11 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Thursday September 26 So far through the first four games of the NFL season the San Francisco 49ers haven’t been playing the kind of football that they expected too. They’ve had two impressive wins against Green Bay and St Louis, but also two extremely...

GIF: Bradford gives puzzled reaction to Rams' playbook

Judging by the puzzled look on Sam Bradford's face, someone might need to get him a translator to read the Rams' playbook.

Quinton Patton expected to miss a lot of time with a broken foot

49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that rookie Quinton Patton  is “going to miss some time,” after breaking his foot during their big win over the Rams on Thursday night. This is the last thing the 49ers need as they continue to look for their young receivers to step up in the absence of Mario Manningham Michael Crabtree. It’s been obvious over the past few weeks...

Willis, Asomugha inactive for 49ers

Linebacker Patrick Willis and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha were inactive for the San Francisco 49ers against the St. Louis Rams. Running back Isaiah Pead was somewhat of a surprise scratch for the Rams on Thursday night, with Daryl Richardson returning from a left foot injury. Pead played most of the game last week and had not been on the injury list. Willis (groin) and Asomugha...

'Rivalry' resumes for 49ers, Rams

Though the St. Louis Rams were among the few teams enjoying the upper hand against the San Francisco 49ers last year, coach Jeff Fisher says it's far from a rivalry. Counting one playoff game, the series that used to be a battle of California is tied 62-62-3, with both teams at .500 at home and on the road entering Thursday night's matchup. Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson showed...

Jeff Fisher says Rams focus is on the 49ers: 'we're going to get it done'

Coach Jeff Fisher says the team is dealing with the short week and coming off a loss heading into Thursday night's game against San Francisco. The Rams have bigger plans for this season, but their slow start has them painted in the corner. Fisher feels his team has a good chance against the struggling 49ers, a team they beat and tied with in 2012.

49ers To Still Pay Aldon Smith His Weekly $98K While He’s In Rehab

You can’t call the San Francisco 49ers disloyal. On the heels of Aldon Smith’s embarrassing DUI arrest, and subsequent trip to rehab earlier this week, Jason La Canfora is reporting that the 49ers will still pay Smith his weekly game check. The 49ers, who could have withheld pay from Aldon Smith while in rehab on the Non-Football Injury list, are paying him his normal salary...

Rams offensive woes continue, lose crucial matchup against 49ers 35-11

The St. Louis Rams’ woeful running game desperately missed the presence of Steven Jackson as they could only muster 18 yards on 19 carries. QB Sam Bradford had to carry the Rams offense and the weight was too much for him to handle.

Is Sam Bradford a bust in his 4th year?

By Shaun DePasquale (@ShaunDoesDraft) Few could have imagined back in 2010, when Sam Bradford was the apple of the NFL’s eye, that three years later, we would be looking at the Rams QB and the #1 pick of the 2010 NFL Draft as an unmitigated bust. But after the Rams 35-11 clunker of a loss […]

McDonald Thursday night in their loss to the San Francisco 49ers with a fractured leg, reports Chris Wesseling of McDonald got his leg tangled up in traffic during the their quarter, appearing to run into DE Gerald Rivers at the end of a 3-yard run by Frank Gore. He was fitted for an air cast and carted off the...

Sam Bradford extension talks would be welcomed by the Rams

Sam Bradford is a decent NFL starter but hasn’t lived up the contract of a former first overall pick (pre-rookie cap), so it’s no surprise that Bradford would rather wait a year or two before discussing a new deal, however the Rams front office appears confident enough in Bradford that they apparently won’t be looking to go another direction and wouldn’t be opposed to talks...

Donte Whitner drops easy interception, Jared Cook catches it

Early in the second quarter, the San Francisco 49ers were down 3-0 and safety Donte Whitner had a chance to make a huge play to turn around momentum.  Instead, the pass slipped right through his hands and St. Louis Rams tight end Jared Cook ended up catching the pass.  The 49ers have regrouped since this gaffe though and lead the Rams 21-3 in the 4th quarter.
