The Jets have mercifully pulled the plug on Mark Sanchez.
On Tuesday, hours after being eliminated from postseason contention, New York announced that quarterback Greg McElroy will start in Week 16 versus the Chargers.
The move was first reported by the New York Daily News.
While now official, the news comes as a no brainer following Sanchez's horrific outing against the Titans, in which he threw four interceptions and lost a fumble.
Earlier, a "prominent member of the organization" told the Daily News that "there's no way" Sanchez is under center next Sunday.
As for Tim Tebow -- because I know you're wondering -- the Jets' coaching staff was reportedly worried about the potential ripple effect from passing over Tebow for McElroy, who's gone from inactive to starter overnight.
