Ir is highly unlikely that the Jets brought in Tim Tebow simply to be a backup quarterback or a contributor on special teams. As Rex Ryan and the New York coaching staff have mentioned, Tebow is expected to receive several snaps per game and be a big part of the team’s offense. He may be bluffing, but Ryan has made it clear that opponents should be ready for a dose of both Mark Sanchez and Tebow. Santonio Holmes does not feel as though that would be effective.

According to Pro Football Talk, the NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano asked Holmes in an interview if he thinks a two-quarterback system could be successful a the NFL level.

“No,” Holmes replied. “I don’t think so. Because you have to allow one quarterback to get in the rhythm of a game. And it starts from the preparation of practice. Making mistakes early in the game to finishing the game at the end, you don’t change a guy out just because he has a few mistakes early in a game. So I think coming into the season we have a lot to expect from Sanchez.”

As we know, Holmes was unhappy with the amount of targets he received last year. He and Sanchez have supposedly worked to build a stronger relationship this offseason (as the Valentine’s Day evidence will show you), but it would stand to reason that he won’t see as many balls if Tebow comes into the game for multiple snaps.

Like most other star receivers, Santonio has made it clear that he simply wants the ball. Personally, I agree with him that a two-quarterback system doesn’t work at the NFL level. It’s rarely ever implemented for a reason. However, it sounds like the Jets are going to try it at least in some capacity. The fact that Holmes is against it before the season has even begun is somewhat alarming for Jets fans.
