With the 30th pick in the first round of last night's NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Temple DE Muhammed Wilkerson.
Wilkerson, the 6'4 315 pound defensive lineman from Linden, NJ, fell into the Jets lap at 30 despite being the 15th ranked prospect in this year's draft. He is expected to perform well in the Jets 3-4 defense and potentially become the pass rusher the team needs.
However, like the defensive selections in the past, the Jets top pick has some question marks that could affect his career in New York. Rich Cimini noted in his Jets blog that Wilkerson did not perform well against elite teams while at Temple. Over his last two seasons at Temple, Wilkerson had 16.5 sacks but most came against teams like Kent State (5), Buffalo (2.5), and Central Michigan (2).
