Bucs’ linebacker Lavonte David does not pay attention to his stats as he is more focused on winning football games. With six sacks and five interceptions this season, David has been the spark to many games for the defense this season. Talking to the media in his day-after-game press conference on Monday, Tampa Bay head coach Greg Schiano said he would not trade David in response to a question asked by TheBayCave.com on how big of an impact he has had on the defense. Lavonte [has] been an incredibly consistent player from the day he arrived. [He] has made every defensive called since the day he arrived. [He is] just really having a great year but I think he’s had a great two years. As I’ve said many times, I wouldn’t trade him for anybody. David got things going for the defense on Sunday when he sacked Buffalo quarterback EJ Manuel for 10 yards, moving them out of the red zone from the Tampa Bay 12-yard line to the 22-yard line in the first quarter. The Bucs would then sack Manuel twice and force a three-and-out on their next offensive possession. Tampa Bay’s defense would again stop the Bills on their next series courtesy of David’s first of two interceptions. The Bucs would go on to sack Manuel seven times and pick off the Bills’ rookie quarterback four times in the afternoon. The 23-year linebacker was once ridiculed and scrutinized after his Week 1 penalty on Jets’ quarterback Geno Smith that setup the game-winning field goal for New York. Since then, he has done what he did all last season and that’s make plays. More than enough plays to warrant a Pro Bowl selection. Follow Gil on Twitter: @GilArciaTBC
