Scott Tolzien is having a ball playing Drew Brees in practice this week. Not a bad gig for the little-known practice-squad quarterback, who wasn't even drafted after a stellar career at Wisconsin or active on game day for the NFC West champion 49ers (13-3) this season. ''It's kind of cool,'' Tolzien said. ''With all the success they're having, it's kind of fun to be running their plays and trying to figure out the rhyme behind the reason of why they're having so much success. The surprising thing is it's not really out-of-the-box thinking or anything, it's just typical stuff. It's a good game plan, but the players have to execute it for them to have success. They have a lot of good players over there who are making plays for them....

WATCH IT!: Drew Brees Talks to Ellen About Playoff Run

If I didn’t love me some Ellen DeGeneres, I’d be totally jealous that she gets to count Drew Brees among her circle of besties. I mean, the dude is on this show so much, he may as well be a co-host. 49ers-Saints Preview: Keys to the 49ers defensive success

DEFENSIVE KEYS 1-TRAP BREES: Sacking quarterback Drew Brees is optimal, but the 49ers seem more intent on trapping him in the pocket. Peter King: Niners look to oust Brees with patience, planning

Beating Drew Brees and the Saints requires brains as much as brawn. The Niners plan to use both in their division-round playoff showdown with New Orleans, writes Peter King.

Saints Are Hot, but They Have Been Stopped

The New Orleans Saints right now appear unstoppable. In brushing aside the Detroit Lions Saturday night in a wild-card playoff victory, the Saints’ jazzy offense was in perfect rhythm in both its passing and running games. Now the Saints march into Candlestick Park this Saturday to meet the 49ers in a divisional-round NFC playoff game. Yet the 49ers are taking solace in the fact...
