Wide receiver Braylon Edwards signed a one year deal with the Seattle Seahawks this morning before training camp.

Edwards in no stranger to the west coast, after being released by the San Francisco 49ers due to plaguing knee injury and a bad shoulder, his production had a noticeable decline. During his year with the Niners and their new Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, Edwards failed to shine as he did his previous season with the New York Jets.

It is true that the shortened off-season last year plus the last-minute add of Edwards to the Niners roster may have had a major effect of the veteran wideout, the matter still remains, he and the Niners did not mesh well. So how much different will things be in Seattle? With Mike Williams getting cut, the number two receiver position is up for grabs and everybody wants it. Yet his arrival seems to mirror last seasons, during day four of the Bing training camp in Renton, Washington, Edwards arrived at 2:00 am and signed his deal that same morning.

During his press conference this afternoon, Edwards raved about the positive environment his new club had to offer and his relationship with Seattle’s Pro Bowl corner, Brandon Browner.

“A lot of fights we had last year, but you know how it is, when your on that field,  guys get into a competition,” he told reporters. “We never take anything outside the field, even when we were against each other…. I’m happy we can fight on the same team.”

He also discussed how it seemed that Seattle had everything “moving in the right direction” and it was a place he “wanted to be heading into his 8th season” in the NFL. During his interview, Edwards was asked about his jersey number, which happened to the number 17, Mike Williams old number. When asked to compare himself to the Seattle’s one time leading receiver, Edwards answered confidently.

“Mikes a little bigger than me, ” he said garnering laughs and smiles. “Size and speed is what I think I bring to the table.”

His enthusiasm for his new team seemed sincere. The veteran commented on his age, saying that at 29 he still felt like he was ”steady and rising” and that there is still a lot of “gas left in the tank.” He has speed and size, though a bit smaller than Mike Williams, he slid right into his old number and hopes to bring the same explosiveness for Seattle that the original number 17 did for the Hawks.

“I love the team dynamic. This is a team that is not on its way, but a team that is pretty much right there,” Edwards said. “They filled those voids and this team is right there in terms of playoffs and even further.”

Edwards only caught 15 passes for 181 yards with no touchdowns during his season with the Niners. Edwards is ready to bring his “A” game and compete for the number two slot, in hopes to take Seattle as far as they can take each other.
