Seattle’s ‘Leo’ hybrid player, Chris Clemons is expected to return to the upcoming mini camps this off-season. Well, they have high hopes for his return.
As we all know, Clemons has been sitting on a contract deal and had missed out on both the voluntary and mandatory camps this season. Sources claim that Clemons is still upset about the contract negotiations and the drafting of Bruce Irvin in the first round of the 2012 draft. Irvin was expected to add depth to the roster and help Clemons speed up the pass rush. However it would seem that the veteran defensive end doesn’t see it that way.
An insider at Clemons camp tells profootballweekly.com the info.
“They totally expect him to show up for training camp,” he said. “But they also thought he was going to show up for the mandatory mini camp, and that didn’t happen, so …”
“But I really think he’ll show up for camp, whether he’s signed a new deal or not.”
With all the negativity that Clemons may be feeling, this could turn out to be a good thing for the Seahawks. He is a competitive player and will most likely bring his ‘A’ game to the field, giving him three back to back seasons with high-ranking sacks numbers. He was also expected to receive an additional $500,000 if he recorded 10 or more sacks this season. A fired up Clemons will be a dangerous Clemons this season, whenever he decides to make it to the field.
“He already had a chip on his shoulder,” the insider said. “He always feels like he has something to prove. With Irvin there, you know Clemons will be motivated. They make a big deal about the excellent camaraderie on the (defensive) line. It’ll be really interesting to see how Clemons treats Irvin.”
