With the departure of linebacker David Hawthorne leaving a sizable hole in the middle of the Seattle Seahawks defense, the organization addressed the need by selecting Utah State's Bobby Wagner in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. However, the athletic and productive former Aggie may be thrust into a high-leverage situation early in his rookie campaign. According to Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune, Wagner worked with the first-team defense as the unit's middle linebacker on Saturday, between outside linebackers K.J. Wright and Leroy Hill. The team signed veteran MLB Barrett Ruud on April 6 with the intention of giving him the brunt of the responsibilities at the position but the 28-year-old is battling an array of injuries including the groin, knee, and shoulder. While Wagner was projected to take on an early role in nickel packages as a rookie, he will state his case to be the full-time replacement for the now-New Orleans Saint David Hawthorne -- a player who seldom came off the field.

Seahawks rookie LB Bobby Wagner played with the first team

Getty Images According to The News Tribune, Seattle Seahawks rookie Bobby Wagner played middle linebacker for the first team defense on Friday. The Seahawks are trying to figure out who’ll man the middle linebacker spot, since David Hawthorne left in free agency.  They really like Wagner’s speed and athleticism thus far.

Plenty of confidence in the Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks proved last year its defense is solid, allowing 19.7 points per game and just over 320 yards per game, good for seventh and ninth best, respectively, in the NFL.  The offense hampered the team, however, and the Hawks placed 28th in yards per game and 22nd in passing yards per game.  Aside from Marshawn Lynch,

Seahawks GM compares Russell Wilson to Drew Brees

Getty Images The Seattle Seahawks clearly love rookie quarterback Russell Wilson after drafting him in the third round of this year’s draft. It seems like general manager John Schneider loves him so much that he compares him to Saints quarterback Drew Brees. “He is the closest player I’ve done to Drew Brees and Jeff Garcia in terms of sliding, finding lanes and creating...

Some skeptical Seattle's Wilson will stick

If the Seattle Seahawks intend to install a passing game package that addresses the height issues of rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, who measured only 5-feet-10 5/8 at the combine in February, it wasn't evident at the team's rookie camp last weekend. Then again, it probably wouldn't be, since the rookie camp is basically designed as an orientation-type session,...

Seahawks’ Tarvaris Jackson absent from voluntary conditioning sessions

Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson skipped voluntary conditioning sessions this week. The conditioning sessions are, as their name says, voluntary and players do frequently skip them to train on their own. However, this is newsworthy because Jackson is in a tight competition to not only retain his starting job, but to stay on the roster. The Seahawks brought two quarterbacks in...

Sidney Rice working out for Seahawks again

Sidney Rice has only been fully healthy for one of his 5 career seasons, but when he was he caught 83 passes for 1312 yards and 8 touchdowns. However, he’s one of the league most injury prone players. Just this past year, he suffered 3 separate concussions and had 2 offseason shoulder surgeries. Now, he’s back working out and running routes with the Seahawks once again. They...

Seattle Seahawks - Don't Fear The Unknown

I should not be excited. I know I shouldn’t be excited. Having this much uncertainty at arguably the single most important position in all of sports is almost never a good thing. Yet here I sit, honestly giddy about the prospect of the Seahawks’ upcoming quarterback battle. I’m looking forward to seeing three quarterbacks we know virtually nothing about duke it out for the...
