Seahawks: Missed it by ‘THAT’ much!

Seahawks, out of town, just like me.   The Seahawks played the 49ers at Candlestick Park in San Francisco last Thursday (October 18th) in a game that could have vaulted Seattle into first place in the NFC West. I was in Los Angeles visiting a friend. I told him I write a blog for the Seahawks and have to watch the game. Due to his busy work/travel schedule, my friend doesn’t often get to watch pro football games. But in this rare circumstance he was sold on the idea of seeing Washington state’s own Seahawks play the 49ers. We went to 1739 Public House to watch the game. This was an short walk from where he and his wife live. 1739 has a happy hour deal that features free personal cheese pizzas with each beer purchase. Judging by the number of people and pizzas floating around the pub, I’d have to say this is a very popular place to come from 4 – 6PM. It was also loud with 49ers fans. However Seahawks supporters were in attendance. In fact, I met a guy there who was wearing a throwback Mariners hat. He’s from Bellingham and lives just a few blocks from the pub. He’s interested in getting feedback from Seahawks fans living on the home front. So how do you feel about this season’s Seahawks, Seattle?   I represented the Seahawks in L.A. If only they represented me in San Francisco. Hey, they’ll get a chance to even the score with the 49ers in Seattle, Week 16.     You got a friend in Seattle.   I like the Bears in Monday Night Football against the Lions. I’d like to see both the Bears and Lions expose each other enough to aid the Seahawks late season push. The Seahawks face Detroit, in Detroit, to wrap the first half of their regular season. A decisive win will be a great way to head into the second half of the season. So far Seattle’s doing well. Though, my friend observed something about Seattle’s offensive game that, for a novice, seemed to be spot on; Seattle didn’t take enough shots underneath, as the Niners did. I agree. With too much passing over the top, in a closely contested defensive game, the short passing game was left flat. When it comes to winning close games, the ability to shift gears relies on all gears having been tried throughout the game. In this case, the Seahawks missed out on more production from Marshawn Lynch. I really think he’d have been as productive as San Francisco’s Frank Gore, had he been thrown to more. He had 1 catch for 13 yards. Later in the game he was thrown to and seemed to freeze before dropping the pass. I sing the refrain of -catching what hits you in the hands- plenty enough, but I balance it out with the refrain of -get a little of that pitch and catch game into the play calling earlier in the game so your receivers aren’t so stiff when it comes-. Okay, so I look forward once again to Week 8 against the Lions. The passer comparison is close. As ratings go, Russell Wilson and Matthew Stafford are both rated just under 80.0. In my view, Wilson has an edge over Stafford due to his mobility and his highly rated running back Marshawn Lynch. The Lions are strong run stoppers. Below is a look at how RBs have fared in both the running AND passing game.   Week 1 against the Rams Steven Jackson – 21 rushes, 53 yds, 4 receptions, 31 yds Week 2 against the 49ers Frank Gore – 17 rushes, 89 yds, 2 receptions, 16 yds Week 3 against the Titans Chris Johnson – 14 rushes, 24 yds, 1 reception, 5 yds Week 4 against the Vikings Adrian Peterson – 21 rushes, 102 yds, 4 receptions, 20 yds Week 5 against the Eagles LeSean McCoy – 14 rushes, 22 yds, 7 receptions, 26 yds Michael Vick – 9 rushes, 59 yds   What I expect the Seahawks to do in Detroit will resemble the Lions’ games against the 49ers, Vikings, and tonight’ game against the Bears. If Seattle plays within themselves as they did in the game against the Patriots, which might be misleading, with all the big plays and all, they’ll be able to dominate Detroit. Detroit gives up points. Seattle will have to take those points.   That much. Missed it by ‘THAT’ much! So the Seahawks only gave up 13 points. That kind of defense buys a team’s offense some time for improvements. While the Seahawks dropped a notch in the playoff hunt, AND somehow, the Green Bay Packers not only got on the radar, they are now seeded (albeit virtually) ahead of the Seahawks. Could a Wild Card match be in the works? Current NFC team seedings as if the regular season ended today…only the top 6 teams would make the playoffs 1) Falcons 2) Bears 3) Giants 4) Niners 5) Vikings 6) Packers 7) Cardinals 8) Seahawks 9) Eagles 10) Cowboys   On that note, Seahawks fans might be happy to see the Bears lose to the Lions.   Good luck in Week 7, Seahawks fans!
