Seahawks place Carpenter on IR, sign Barbre
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks placed rookie offensive tackle James Carpenter on injured reserve Thursday, a week after he tore an anterior cruciate ligament in practice.
Carpenter, the former Alabama player drafted 25th overall this year, started nine games this season — eight at right tackle and one at left guard. He was hurt last week in practice.
The Seahawks also signed offensive tackle Allen Barbre.
Barbre made three starts for Seattle last season. He was released by Miami on Sept 6.

Seahawks Believe They’re a Playoff Contender
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and his team believe they can make the playoffs this season despite a 4-6 record so far. Right now the Seahawks are three games behind both of the current NFC wild card co-leaders, which are the Bears and Lions. Since the Seahawks were able to get into the playoffs [...]
Why I Like Pete Carroll
To illustrate why I like Pete Carroll, let me compare him to two other football personalities: quarterback Jim Plunkett and coach Bill Walsh.
Not too many of you young whippersnappers who read this site are old enough to remember Jim Plunkett. He was a Heisman trophy winner who led Stanford to two Rose Bowl victories, and the Raiders to two Super Bowl championships. Although...

Seahawks WR Rice returns to practice
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice returned to practice Friday and will play in Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
Rice had sat out the past two days of practice, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the wideout is "ready to go."
In his first season with Seattle, Rice has 32 receptions for 484 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.
Kam Chancellor slapped with $40,000 fine
It’s been an expensive two weeks for Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor. A week after he was fined $20,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin, a league source tells PFT that Chancellor — a member of Peter King’s midseason All-Pro team — has been fined $40,000 for an illegal shoulder-to-helmet hit on Rams…

Pete Carroll recalls Fred Davis fondly
Seattle Coach Pete Carroll is less than two years into his second stint in the NFL, but he’s plenty familiar with at least one Redskins player.
Playing his high school ball in Ohio, Fred Davis lined up everywhere: receiver, running back, safety and quarterback. Carroll recruited him to USC in 2004 and Davis was starting for the Trojans at tight end by his sophomore season. Carroll...

Super-sized line gives Seahawks solid defensive foundation
The Seahawks' defensive strength is just that: their strength. A stout line has suddenly made them formidable.
Morning links: Hawks still thinking playoffs
The focus of my story today is, believe it or not, the Seattle Seahawks still think they have enough gas in the tank to make a run at the postseason. At 4-6, the Seahawks are three games behind NFC wild card co-leaders Detroit and Chicago (7-3). And one reason for Seattle’s confidence in completing the arduous task ahead is because the Seahawks already accomplished the unexpected...
