Seattle Seahawks tight end John Carlson will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, the team announced Tuesday.
Carlson, in the final year of his rookie deal, has not practiced for the past two weeks because of the injury.
Seattle had planned on teaming Carlson with fellow tight end Zach Miller, who was lured away from Oakland during the offseason.
Carlson, second-round selection in 2008, was held to a career-low 31 catches a season ago. His 55 receptions as a rookie is a franchise record for tight ends.
