Hauschka injured his calf during Sunday night’s win over the
Washington Redskins, which limited him to extra points and field goals, while
punter Jon Ryan took over kickoff duties. At one point it appeared Ryan could
take over as kicker, as he was practicing for field goals on the sidelines, but
Hauschka remained in the game.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that Hauschka was questionable to play in this weekend’s NFC Divisional round matchup against the
Atlanta Falcons due to his injury. The Seahawks have since signed veteran kicker Ryan Longwell in a move that was thought to insure Hauschka, as it was
reported that there was still a shot he’d suit up this weekend.
However, it now appears that Longwell will handle kicking
duties for the Seahawks for the remainder of their season. Longwell was a
15-year veteran entering the 2012 season, but he has not kicked in the NFL at
all this year. He last appeared in 2011 with the Minnesota Vikings, making
22 of 28 field goal attempts.
