The most busy team in the league announced several confirmed reports and one signing that was confirmed earlier today. Pro Bowl TE Zach Miller, CB Kelly Jennings, DE Jimmy Wilkerson, LB MIchael Johnson, and undrafted rookie running back Chase Reynolds.
Also announced, and somewhat of a relieving announcement, was the signing of former Steelers and 49ers kicker Jeff Reed.
Yes, that Jeff Reed, the Squealers Jeff Reed, Super Bowl XL Jeff Reed, crazy yells at people because there’s no toilet paper Jeff Reed, and yes, the guy with the hair in the picture. Who cares? He’s an actual kicker, and before Seattle signed him we were looking forward to Wes Bynum vs. Brandon Coutu.
I remember once upon a time Olindo Mare had one bad 10/17 season before signing with Seattle only to parlay his time here into a franchise tag with the Seahawks and a 4 year, $12 million deal with the Carolina Panthers.
Reed received the franchise tag in 2010 and in all honesty had a bi-polar season. After going 15/22 and getting released by the Steelers he latched on with the 49ers as an injury replacement and nailed 9/10 field goals.
Considering what options were available and what the Seahawks had on the roster, this is a huge upgrade, and at 32, Reed has a lot of kicking years ahead of him and was on a tear to wrap up last season
Seattle released the following players, all undrafted rookie free agents:
DT Ladi Ajiboye
K Wes Byrum
G Michael Huey
QB Zac Lee
LB Blake Sorensen
