By the Numbers
  • 11 Seasons…
  • 114 Starts…
  • 26 Sacks…
  • 39 Pass Defensed…
  • 5 Forced Fumbles…
  • and 8 interceptions…

What do these numbers represent?

The amount of experience the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants gained with EX-members of YOUR Seattle Seahawks.

Most of this experience was gained by defensive tackle Rocky Bernard and safety Deon Grant who both played in the Super Bowl.

Rocky Bernard

Bernard was drafted by Seattle in the 5th round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He went on to play in Seattle for the first 7 seasons of his career (54 starts) where he amassed 26 sacks, 13 pass defenses and forced 4 fumbles.

On February 28, 2009 Rocky signed with the Giants as a free agent and has played for them ever since. On Super Bowl Sunday he had a couple solo tackles from his backup tackle position and is now a world champion.

Deon Grant

Grant (now a backup as well) spent 3 seasons with Seattle after being signed as a free agent in 2007. As a Seahawks safety he started 48 games, had 26 pass defenses, 1 forced fumble and 8 interceptions.

Since joining the Giants he is probably best recognized for a play in which he and teammate Jacquian Williams both fell to the ground (most agree faking injury) after a play to stop the St. Louis Rams no huddle offense that was driving deep into Giants territory.

Ex Seahawks Tackle Super Bowl Champion Rocky Bernard Seattle Seahawks in the 2012 Super Bowl?

Bernard was drafted by Seattle in the 5th round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He's now a Super Bowl Champ!

On Super Bowl Sunday he managed 6 tackles 5 solo.

Stacy Andrews

Offensive Tackle Stacy Andrews played in Seattle for 1 season (2010). In that season he started 12 of the 13 games he played in.

Before the 2011 preseason Andrews was released by Seattle and picked up by the Giants almost a week later. He played in 9 games for the Giants (3 starts) before being hospitalized with a pulmonary embolism that subsequently ended his season.

I have spoken with a close family member who has assured me that he is feeling well and making progress in his recovery. He was unable to play in the game but he is now a Super Bowl Champion.

Isaiah Stanback

Last, and definitely least is Isaiah Stanback who  never got on track in Seattle getting injured during the preseason both years he was in Seattle and was released on an injury settlement by the Seahawks earlier this year.

At the end of November he was signed to the Giants practice squad and is the final ex-Seahawks player who is now a Super Bowl Champion.

What does all this mean? Absolutely nothing, but it is fun to look at the connection.

None of these guys made the Giants a great team in anything other than a supporting role and each one of these players has a better, younger player occupying his former roster spot on the Seahawks roster.

I just felt the need to write this blog post. Enquiring minds might want to know.

As an added bonus, mentioning the Super Bowl & Seattle Seahawks in the same article without the word D-E-T-R-O-I-T is kind of sweet too.

Seattle Seahawks: Who Should Be Their Top Free Agent or Draft Day Target?

Keeping the Band Together

[Note: Recurring computer problems have kept me sidelined for the last two weeks, but I think I’ve finally got them solved. The way I see it, my PC was at least polite enough to wait until the Seahawks’ season was over to give me trouble.] Although the Seahawks’ 2011 season ended with them eliminated from playoff contention for the third time in the last four years, I’d...

The Ideal 2012 Seahawks Off-Season Scenario

Maybe it’s time to just forget about Peyton Manning with the Seahawks

So, all that excitement about the possibility of perhaps maybe potentially getting Peyton Manning on the Seattle Seahawks? Yeah, it might be time to forget about it. Not because any possibility Manning might come here has dried up. But it’s getting questionable whether Seahawks fans really should want him to come here. Sure, after neck surgery and sitting out the entirety of...
