MY Seattle Seahawks did a couple of things this past weekend that I loved.
First, they cut Terrell Owens.
No crying or doing situps in the driveway this year, Seattle fans. You should all be celebrating the fact that the Seahawks have decided to not expose their team to the poison that is T.O. Choosing to keep Braylon Edwards and drop T.O. is a step in the right direction.
Second, after a stellar preseason performance, the Seahawks have decided to start rookie Russell Wilson at QB.
Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson has gone from overlooked draft prospect to beating out high-priced signee Matt Flynn as the starting QB in Seattle.
I loved the Wilson pick in the draft. Lots of people questioned the selection, but I was very excited. I figured he would be the obvious backup choice and maybe challenge for the job, but I had no idea in his first year that Wilson would step up to the plate like this.
I think Matt Flynn was necessary to signing, but if he isn’t the best man for the job, having a good backup is vital. Wilson provides a dual threat with his speed. Although many argue he is too short to play QB, he played behind some pretty massive linemen at Wisconsin and did pretty well. I think he will be the spark plug the Seattle offense needs.
Lastly, it is being reported that the Seahawks have traded Tavaris Jackson to the Buffalo Bills for an undisclosed draft pick. Even if it is a 6 or 7th rounder, it’s a good deal.
Jackson is not a starting QB in this league. I am ecstatic to see the T-Jax era end and get something in return for ridding ourselves of a subpar QB.
It’s time to move forward, and while I don’t think the Seahawks will win the division this year, it should be a fun ride with Wilson at the helm.
