Save The Date: Seahawks vs. Cardinals
The Countdown Is On – Game 1 Is In 29 Days – September 9th, 2012
1:25PM PT - University of Phoenix Stadium
For the second Tuesday in a row, Tarvaris Jackson worked with the first offense.  For the second Tuesday in a row, Pete Carroll announced Matt Flynn would start and play the first half of Saturday’s game against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Russell Wilson will play the second half for the Seahawks. Observations Second year guard John Moffitt underwent the elbow surgery today, but should be available by week two or three at the latest.  He was excellent as a run blocker last season, so hopefully he will be healthy this year. Sidney Rice dawned a white practice jersey today, for the first time this off season.  He’s been wearing a red no-contact jersey coming off of double shoulder surgery. Although he will not play this weekend, it’s awesome to see the ‘Hawks big money receiver healthy. Offense Wide receivers Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette both were back in action today.  Baldwin had hurt his hamstring earlier last week and missed that week of practice and the preseason opener. Tight End Zach Miller didn’t practice today, after suffering his fourth concussion of his career on Saturday. Regardless of the severity, four is a lot and the coaching staff is going to be very careful with him. Center/Guard Lemuel Jeanpierre pulled his groin today in practice while doing work at center.  He filled in admirably for Moffitt last season, so hopefully it’s nothing serious. Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette both were back in action today. Defense Defensive backs Ron Parker and Jeron Johnson didn’t practice today.  Parker is competing for a roster spot in a deep cornerback competition, and Johnson or rookie Winston Guy looks like the likely backup for Earl Thomas. Linebacker Barrett Ruud returned to practice today as well, after sitting out the past few days with a knee injury.  He is competing for the starting middle linebacker spot with rookie Bobby Wagner. Quarterback Competition Pete Carroll still won’t name a starter for the regular season, but he did say “This is where they stand right now” in terms of the depth chart. With two weeks in a row with the first team, this is all but official that it’s Flynn’s job. Russell Wilson will get 30-35% of the snaps the rest of the week, with Jackson and Josh Portis taking the rest. Carroll also noted that Tarvaris Jackson, although frustrated, hasn’t asked for a trade or to be released (yet). Another week and I believe his tone changes, but Jackson has been nothing but professional in all his time in Seattle. What They’re Saying Pete Carroll on Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette returning to practice and on rookie Bobby Wagner. “Great to see Baldwin and Lockette back. Good job healing them. Went full speed, looked good.” “Wagner has a chance to be the starter. We had all hoped for that.” LeRoy Hill on the Seattle defense, ”We have all the tools to have a crazy dominate defense. We have the pieces, the swagger.” Since I haven’t been giving much special team love this offseason, I’ll leave you with this:

Seattle Seahawks Will Trade Tarvaris Jackson, But Will Any Team Want Him?

The Seattle Seahawks are likely looking to trade quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, as Matt Flynn is cementing himself as the team’s starter, and while Russell Wilson appears more than capable of handling the back up role. So while the Seahawks are more than willing to move Jackson before the next week or so, the question remains, what team would actually want Jackson at this point...

Seahawks QB Jackson won't play in second preseason game either

Tarvaris Jackson, who was Seattle's starting quarterback last season, will not play in the Seahawks' second preseason game on Saturday against Denver, but coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Tuesday that Jackson is still in the competition to be the Seahawks' regular-season starter. Carroll said Tuesday he will follow the same plan as in the first preseason game...

Camp update: State of the Seahawks 2012 UDFA rookie class

Undrafted Free Agents Earlier today I weighed in with a 2012 NFL draft rookie report card after the Seahawks first game in the NFL pre-season. These 6 guys are players who are looking to either impress the Seahawks enough to keep them or put enough solid performances on tape that some other team will be interested in giving them a chance. For some this preseason will be the only...

Matt Flynn to start for Seahawks vs. Broncos

Per the Seahawks.com website today we've learned that Pete Carroll said in a post practice press conference that Matt Flynn will start at QB this week vs. the Denver Broncos in Week 2 NFLX action. That was the word from coach Pete Carroll after today’s practice, although incumbent starter Tarvaris Jackson worked as the No. 1 QB in practice and Carroll admitted he thought about...

Seahawks Come Up Victorious In Preseason Opener

Northwest Sports Update I totally forgot to post this. I wrote it on Monday AM, it got lost in my notes. A 5 dimes review of Seattle’s preseason opener against Tennessee should be positive about the Seahawks’ performance, but not too positive as there is a long way to go in Seattle, especially at quarterback. Matt Flynn was 11-of-13 for 71 yards and a pick in a 27-17 win...

Russell Wilson believes he’s closer to becoming the Seahawks starting quarterback

AP Photo Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson told Ian Furness from KJR in Seattle via SportsRadioInterviesws.com that he believes he’s moved closer to becoming the starting quarterback. “I definitely believe I’ve moved closer,” Wilson said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “You take one step at a time, one day at a time, one rep at a time and you just improve...

Final Public Practice – Observations

Notable Points Judging from this practice alone, Matt Flynn is the clear-cut favorite to start in week 1 of the regular season. Flynn, as advertised, showed crispness in his mechanics and his accuracy was top-notch, (only 3 incompletions during the entire practice). He often checked down short passes rather than airing it out deep, but did flash his arm on several occasions as...

Seattle Seahawks: Chock-Full Of Drama

If you thought Miami, New Orleans, Dallas, and the New York Jets had a lot of drama surrounding their teams coming into the 2012 NFL season, you should take a look at the storms brewing in Seattle. Only a season removed from stumbling into the playoffs and knocking out the Saints in the first round, high expectations are being placed on a young Seattle team. Head coach Pete Carroll...
