Be excited everyone because the NFL season is only a month away.  The summer doldrums of sports is almost over and that means training camp has started.  This first week has proven costly to many teams and unfortunately the Seahawks are no exception.  The biggest news out of camp is that newly signed wide receiver Percy Harvin had surgery on his ailing hip.  There is no timetable for his return but similar cases have taken up to 4 months to heal properly.  This leaves questions at the wide out position with Sidney Rice constantly battling injuries and Golden Tate entering his fourth year with progressively better season numbers. Despite the questions at receiver one unit in particular is especially strong for the Hawks.  The defensive backfield is very strong and the addition of Antoine Winfield will only solidify the position.  Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman are two of the best corners in the league, so opposing quarterbacks will have to be very wary when facing Seattle.  Winfield is a perennial All-Pro and even in the twilight of his career he can definitely contribute to the Seahawks defense. The Seahawks were a good team last year making the playoffs for the second time in three years, and a very valid question is how the rookies will contribute.  The defense is fairly well established so the offense is where first year players might get a chance at significant playing time.  Two rookies seem the closest to contributing immediately and they are running back Christine Michael and wide receiver Chris Harper.  Michael will provide a change of pace back for the incumbent starter Marshawn Lynch if he can get past second stringer Robert Turbin.  Chris Harper is an intriguing option being a former quarterback with size and hands that could help immediately with the lack of Percy Harvin. All in all it has been an interesting first week for the team from the Emerald City. The weeks to come will answer what kind of team Seattle will be in the coming season.
