Detroit Rock City Hopefully that is the mentality of the Seahawks on Sunday as they make their way into the Motor City to battle the not so fierce Lions. Matchup: Seattle vs. Detroit Venue: Ford Field Time: 10:00 (local) Date: October 28th, 2012 Weather: Indoors Team Records: Seattle (4-3) Detroit (2-4) Standings: Seahawks 3rd NFC West. Detroit 4th NFC North As mentioned in my Seahawks week that was piece, the Seahawks travel back to the site of Super Bowl XL for just the second time since that fateful day. Demons were quelled last time in the kickers duel, but not completely put to death. This week needs to be different for the Hawks, both for their season standings, and for us fans as well. Game notes/How they match up The Lions have had a tough go of things this year winning wise. They have been in every single game, and each of the losses, with the exception of the San Francisco game, have been by less than a touchdown. To me this spells defensive problems. Great news for the Seahawks who have struggled mightily this season offensively on the road. If the Hawks receivers can hang on to some balls, this game should go the way of the Seahawks. If not, it will be on the defense and Marshawn Lynchto carry the victory home. Once again it will be the job of the Seahawks defense to keep the game close enough for the offense to win it. What to watch: Seattle Contrary to popular belief, Seahawks rookie QB Russell Wilson isn’t having a terrible year at all. Sure his numbers could be way better with some sticky tape on his receivers hands, but to be in this situation with a contending team at this point in his rookie year. Of course the biggest question will be receiver dependability. Second question will be can we get some tight end action going on in the offense. Third is, can Marshawn actually get into the end zone. Or better yet, can any Seahawk get into the end zone. What to watch: Detroit Will this be the game when the downward spiral actually stops? For me personally, and probably all of you as well, I hope not. Injuries to the RB position have hurt the Lions tremendously this year. But scoring points doesn’t seem to be their problem. Can they take control of the game early enough and beat the Seahawks defense just enough to put the pressure on the Hawks offense? (That is how SF beat us.) That will be the key to a win for the Lions on Sunday. Seattle O vs. Detroit D Run, run, run, and then pass if we need to. The Seahawks run game should be enough to topple the Lions D. Should the game be put into a shoot out style passing game, I think the Hawks will be in trouble. West Coast style offense suits this team to a tee, but they just don’t have the tools to be very successful at it, especially in the TE department. Zach Miller was brought in to be the pass catching game breaking player, but hasn’t lived up to that potential since arriving in Seattle. Maybe this defense would be the perfect time to unleash the Beast. Of course all eyes now will be on the Richard Sherman, Calvin Johnson battles througout the game Detroit O vs. Seattle D Optimus Prime vs. Megatron is all we really need to speak about in this section. But. The Lions have some lethal weapons on offense, namely Matthew Stafford, and Calvin Johnson. If the Hawks contain these two, game is ours no problem. Detroit can put up points in a hurry, and that would be a very bad thing for the Seahawks offense. On the road so far this year, each game was lost on offense, when the defense kept us in the game until the 4th quarter when we just couldn’t put that final nail in the coffin. This is the perfect time to turn that corner. Injury report Seahawks: Out: Doug Baldwin, Byron Maxwell. Doubtful: Jason Jones. Questionable: John Moffitt. Probable: Marshawn Lynch Lions: Out: Jacob Lacey, Amari Spievey. Doubtful: DeAndre Levy. Questionable: Cliff Avril, Bill Bentley, Louis Delmas, Titus Young. Probable: Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Stephen Tulloch, Corey Williams. Predictions The Lions are favored by 2.5, but losing two in a row just isn’t the Seahawks’ style. I see them squeaking by in this one for a rare road win.
