Before the season began this looked like it may be a Thursday night match-up that would go fairly unnoticed. Now, almost to the half-way point of the season, this contest between both 4-2 squads looks like it will have major implications.  Implications that go beyond who wins the division and who goes to the playoffs.  Rather, a match-up that may determine who the next dominant defense is going to be for the next few years.  Just as Baltimore made their mark years ago and continue to carry the torch as the defensive team, Seattle and San Francisco looked primed to do the same, if not receive that torch from Baltimore. Both teams have young and athletic defenses that have proved this year they can shut just about anyone done.  For Seattle, they rank second in the league with giving up the fewest number of points, averaging 15.5. They have been tough on both sides of the ball giving up an average of 70 rushing yards a game, ranking 2nd, while only giving up an average of 294.7 total ya...

Russell Wilson says tonights game is “just another game”

Russell Wilson seems to be gaining tons of confidence in Seattle.“Ever since I landed here in Seattle, everybody talks about the NFC West and how big this game is,” Wilson said Tuesday on a conference call with Bay Area media.Wilson then downplayed the match-up as just “another game on the schedule.” His Seahawks, however, already are 0-2 in the division after road losses...

Seattle's problems in loss more than just Wilson

Perhaps it should have been expected that if Seattle rookie quarterback Russell Wilson was going to endure an ugly performance early in his first season, it would probably be on the road against San Francisco's stellar defense. What wasn't expected in Seattle's 13-6 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night was a number of dropped passes, some at critical moments, and a Seahawks...

Sidney Rice Throws Mouthpiece After Russell Wilson's Poor Play

The Seattle Seahawks offense once again couldn't get off the ground and Sidney Rice didn't hold back on his frustration with quarterback Russell Wilson. In the third quarter, Rice threw his mouthpiece in disgust after Wilson tossed an interception with Seattle still in the game. (Since it won't let me put the GIF on this post, here is the link) The Seahawks only lost...

Thursday Night Fantasy Football Pick-Up and Start, Week 7

The Thursday Night games have been pretty boring this year, with few reasons to watch other than fantasy and gambling implications. This week might be the exception, as the Seahawks travel to face the 49ers.  Every week I'm profiling one sparsely-owned player from Thursday's game that you can (notice I'm not saying should) pick up and start. Ya know, get your...

Seahawks-49ers Live Blog, First Half

One of the best match-ups of the week on Thursday night. How nice to put that at a time when players only have three days rest. I’ve said elsewhere that it was the rampant Peter King fluffing that turned me against Russell Wilson. I know that’s not really a fair thing to hold against someone. Wilson is just being himself. If he happens to charm some reporters who skew their coverage...

Week 7 Picks: Thursday Night Edition

Which quarterback will lead his team to victory tonight? Alex Smith or Russell Wilson Seattle Seahawks (4-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (4-2) 8:20 p.m. Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA The Seahawks have come out of nowhere to start their season winning four of their first six.  Among those four were wins against the Packers, Patriots and Cowboys.  All three of those teams were...

2012 NFL Scouting: Week 6 in Review

We predicted that week six could hold some big surprises, and it certainly did. While Russell Wilson's coming of age performance against the Patriots was one of the biggest, there were plenty of other big showings throughout the weekend that were worth noting. Did you miss some big performances amidst all the weekend's action? Two Rookies Take Big Steps Just a couple...

Best NFL Rookies Week 6

QB: Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks: Wilson added another impressive victory to his resume, as he completed a 46-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Rice with just 1:18 on the clock to take down Tom Brady and the Patriots. The rookie out of Wisconsin now has wins over Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers*, Tony Romo, and Cam Newton, not bad for only having played six games. Both Todd McShay and Mel...

Seahawks vs. 49ers: Some things to love & hate from Thursday

This one hurt The Seattle Seahawks were in prime time again Thursday, heading to San Francisco to take on the division rival 49ers. It was a battle of top defenses and a battle for first place in the division, two races the Seahawks lost over the course of the night. It was a painful loss as the Seahawks had several opportunities to extend their lead or to take the lead back from...

Wilson, Jones lead RB pickups

Fantasy owners face a big challenge in Week 7 with a whopping six teams on bye (Atlanta, Denver, Kansas City, Miami, Philadelphia and San Diego). This means several owners will be scrambling to the waiver wire, and in most standard 10- or 12-team leagues owners must dig a little deeper than normal. While waiver adds are usually specific to team needs, there are a couple of running...

NFL Week 7 Picks

LAST WEEK: 6-8 SEASON: 55-36 (60%)  Def. The Seahawks are coming off a huge win against the Pats and the 49ers are coming off a really rough loss to the Giants, but San Francisco's defense is just too good to lose to Russell Wilson no matter how good the Seattle defense plays. Def. Both of these teams were big underdogs in their...

Seattle vs. San Francisco 49ers: The aftermath, what went wrong?

No Game Balls This Week Last time I had the unfortunate responsibility of doing ‘What Went Wrong’, the first line was ‘Hey! Only 5 penalties!’  Well this time, I’m leading off with this: 5 drops. 5 freakin’ drops. Unacceptable!  So frustrating to watch, and frustrating for the Seahawks rookie QB Russell Wilson to have happen.  Tough game, tough team, hostile environment...

Seahawks Shock Patriots: Five Things We Learned

Seattle's surprising win over the New England Patriots left the Seahawks at 4-2 and tied with the 49ers at the top of the suddenly formidable NFC West.  Meanwhile, New England, a heavy favorite to win its tenth division title in the last 12 years, finds itself unexpectedly in a four-way tie atop the AFC East.  Here's what we learned:1. New England's Secondary Needs...

Thursday Night Pick: Seahawks vs. 49ers

What a wild week it was in Week 6. Tons of upsets and a very good week for the dogs. I just took Ravens (-3) as my top play and missed on by a point when the Cowboys scored a touchdown in the last two minutes when the Ravens were holding an 8-point lead. The most significant upset last week was the Seahawks topping the Patriots in Seattle after scoring a TD in the last two minutes...
