The Chargers began the offseason with 12 players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Half are back with the team. Seyi Ajirotutu, a special teams gunner and wide receiver, became the latest Monday, signing a one-year contract. He had a team-high 15 special teams tackles in 2013, forming a gunner tandem with captain Darrell Stuckey. Ajirotutu, 26, spent little time on offense; his 178 special-teams snaps last season easily outnumbered his 44 routes ran. But his season is best remembered for a Nov. 24 fly route down the left boundary in Kansas City. He hauled in a 26-yard reception with 24 seconds left, lifting the Chargers to a 41-38 upset win. The result saved San Diego's season, snapping a three-game losing streak. It was the Chiefs' first home loss of the year. Ajirotutu called it "the biggest catch of my career." His season ended with three for 64 yards. San Diego also has re-signed inside linebacker Donald Butler, guard Chad Rinehart, Stuckey, l...

Ajirotutu rounds out receiving corps staying status quo from 2013

On Monday, the Chargers continued their pace in free agency by bringing back a player who started to make waves a year ago. The Bolts and wide receiver/special teamer Seyi Ajirotutu agreed to terms on a one-year deal that brings the 26-year old wide out back to San Diego for the 2014 season. Ajirotutu has been with the team since 2012 and spent his first season in San Diego as...

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Wide receiver and special teams ace Seyi Ajirotutu has signed a one-year contract to remain with the San Diego Chargers. Ajirotutu was an unrestricted free agent before the deal was announced Monday. The top 10 defensive ends in the draft: Chargers could add a pass rusher late

The defensive end in the 3-4 defense goes a bit unnoticed compared to the role the position plays in the traditional 4-3. In a 3-4, these players have to eat up blockers on certain plays in order for the OLB to have an easier time rushing the passer, while other times the defensive end needs to tee off on the quarterback. The Chargers are equipped with two pretty darn good 3-4 defensive...

Three under the radar free agents who could be great, late adds for the Chargers

The Chargers have made nothing but minor moves so far this offseason causing some to question “the plan” to improve in 2014. When you look at the makeup of the AFC West, it is hard to see how the Chargers are going to get over the hump and contend with the Denver Broncos who have been extremely active yet again this offseason. Adding T.J. Ward, DeMarcus Ware, and Aqib Talib will...

Power Rankings: Rating NFL uniforms from 1-32, where are the San Diego Chargers?

While the NFL’s free agency period is fun, providing every team in the league a reason to be hopeful about next season, there is a sobering reality about professional sports that comes through during this time of year. In the end, players are just interchangeable parts. Loyalty, from either the teams or the athletes, doesn’t even enter into the equation. Being a part of the community...

Telesco playing dangerous game by not adding a cornerback before the draft

There’s a misleading sentiment around the idea of building through the draft. The idea is the best roster management comes from attaining the best players in the draft instead of signing players through free agency. While the draft remains the most efficient way to bring in skilled players on valued contracts — even in his second year Keenan Allen won’t nearly be paid what...
