Robert Griffin III walks on the stage after the Washington Redskins select him as the #2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 26, 2012. UPI /John Angelillo Mike Shanahan apparently only needed one rookie minicamp to name Robert Griffin III his starting quarterback. My question is, what took him so long? I’m shocked Shanahan didn’t walk to the podium at Radio City Music Hall and made the announcement while Griffin was busy hugging Roger Goodell. If anyone is surprised that Shanahan has already made this decision, don’t be. He gave up first-round picks in 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as the team’s second-round pick this year so why not start Griffin right away? There’s no reason to wait. “Any time you pick a player with the second pick of the draft and you give up another two No. 1’s and No. 2 and you move up four spots, you’ve got a game plan in mind,” Shanahan told Mike Jones of the Washington Post. “We’re going to adjust ou...

Shanahan Names Robert Griffin III The Starter

The Washington Redskins are at a crossroads. Saying the team, and in particular Head Coach Mike Shanahan, are putting all their eggs in one basket is an understatement. Only one week after trading up in the first round, Shanahan has named Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III the number one quarterback. Washington gave St. Louis their first and second round picks this year and...

Shanahan: Griffin will be starting QB

Robert Griffin III already has the No. 1 quarterback job with the Washington Redskins. Coach Mike Shanahan said Sunday that the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor will work with the starters when the Redskins begin full offseason practices later this month. Said Shanahan: ''He's the starter. Period.'' Griffin completed a three-day rookie camp Sunday, a little...

All eyes on RG3 at Redskins minicamp

Robert Griffin III stood out with his bright yellow cleats, but that didn't matter. Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, coach Mike Shanahan and the horde of media members would have honed in on the future of the franchise anyway. It was the third and final day of the Redskins' rookie minicamp Sunday, and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner -- the second overall pick in...

Are the Redskins Setting Robert Griffin III Up to Fail?

“He’s the starter. Period. Any time you pick a player with the second pick of the draft and you give up another two No. 1’s and No. 2 and you move up four spots, you’ve got a gam eplan in mind. We’re going to adjust our system to what he feels comfortable with, and we’ll watch him grow, and we’ll do what we feel like he does the best.” With the above statement...

Redskins Officially Name RG3 Starter

There really is no sense messing around with this one. The Washington Redskins have named No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III the starting quarterback. It's nice to see head coach Mike Shanahan get this out of the way. It isn't a surprise that Griffin III was named the starter, but some thought that he would have to compete with Rex Grossman for the starting gig this...

Washington Redskins: Did Drafting Kirk Cousins Make Sense?

In 2011, former Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousin led Michigan State to play against Wisconsin in the first ever Big 10 Championship.  In a draft that was filled with star quarterbacks like Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill and Brandon Weeden, Cousins was one of the quarterbacks that went on the back burner. After being drafted with the seventh pick in the fourth...

Honors Given To Baylor's RG3 and Ganaway

Baylor's Robert Griffin III and Terrance Ganaway were recognized as standout student athletes by the NFF Hampshire Honor Society

Mike Shanahan confirmed what we already knew, RG3 is No. 1.

Washington Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan said the only thing I wanted to hear about Robert Griffin III, "He's the starter, period," Shanahan stated in today's press conference following the Rookie mini-camp. Then Shanahan got into words that coaches who draft young quarterbacks always say. Developing Griffin is going to take time. Blah blah blah and yada yada...

Redskins officially name Griffin starting quarterback

The battle for the Skins starting quarterback job is over before it even began … and that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Following the conclusion of Washington’s rookie minicamp Sunday, head coach Mike Shanahan wasted little time, officially announcing that Robert Griffin III will be the team’s starter under center this season. “He’s the starter. Period,” Shanahan...

Shanahan on RG3: “He’s the Starter, period”

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan made sure that everyone understands there isn’t going to be a battle between Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III for the starting quarterback job. Shanahan made it clear that Griffin is the guy that will start with the first unit during OTA’s. “Obviously any time you pick a player with the second pick in the draft and you give up...

2012 NFC East predictions: Are the Cowboys playoff bound?

Can the Dallas Cowboys make the playoffs in 2012? Historically the NFC East has been one of the toughest divisions in the NFL and that tendency should again hold true in the upcoming season.  Last season, the New York Giants won the NFC East with a 9-7 record on the last week of the regular season

Andrew Strickert is my long time blogging colleague who covers the Tennessee Titans for Total Titans on the Bloguin Network. Andrew overheard an assessment of Robert Griffin III and his NFL prospects that he thought would interest Washington Redskins fans — not that Redskins fans need convincing about RG3. We thought it was good enough to turn into a guest post. Read on. Mike...
