Shanahan: Redskins can do 'something special'

Associated Press  |  Last updated October 03, 2011
Mike Shanahan says the Washington Redskins are where he was hoping to have them four games into the season. The coach said Monday the Redskins have a chance to do ''something special'' after their 3-1 start. The Redskins beat St. Louis 17-10 on Sunday, although they had to sweat out the final minutes after blowing a 17-0 lead against a winless team. The defense is tied for the NFL lead in sacks with 15 and is also tied for tops when it comes to stopping teams on third down. The offensive line didn't allow a sack Sunday and opened enough holes to generate 196 yards rushing. But quarterback Rex Grossman is 24th in the NFL with a 78.7 rating, with six touchdowns and five interceptions.
