During Shaun Smith’s final days in Cleveland he allegedly punched Brady Quinn in the face, got cut eight months later, and on his way out the door he reportedly entered into some sort of altercation with then D-Line Coach Bryan Cox.

Last year he may or may not have been involved in some below the belt cheap-shotting as well, directed at Browns Center Alex Mack, who he decided to put on blast earlier today in an article with Jeff Wyatt from the Tennessean.

This from the Smith, who will be coming in with the Titans tomorrow to square off against your Cleveland Browns, via The Tennessean:

As he heads back to Cleveland, where he ignited plenty of controversy during his days with the Browns, Smith is stirring things up again. This time his target is Browns center Alex Mack, the 21st overall selection of the 2009 draft.

They butted heads that offseason and in training camp before the Browns released Smith. They also squared off in a memorable battle last season when Smith was with the Chiefs.

“During his rookie year, I used to tell him he should give his money back. I used to tell him he wasn’t worth a first-round pick,” Smith said. “It’s nothing personal or anything like that. That’s just how I felt.”

So what did Mack have to say about that?

“He didn’t say nothing,” Smith said. “I mean, I was kicking his (butt) the whole camp and I had a good game when we played them last year.”

Smith acknowledged Mack is “pretty good, a decent player” and called him “a good guy.”

Chances are Mack, who went to the Pro Bowl last year, doesn’t think as highly of Smith. Mack accused his former teammate of “grabbing his private parts” during their meeting last season.

“You can’t believe everything you hear,” Smith said on Friday. “The league sorted it all out — no fine.”

Still, Smith said he has fond memories of Cleveland. He’s looking forward to going back and saying hello to the folks in the Dawg Pound.

“My career got off to a better start in Cleveland. That’s when I became a full-time starter,” he said. “Now I was a little bitter when they let me go because of the situation with the new regime, but I look at everything as funny now because (Mangini), and the situation with Brady Quinn, they aren’t there any more either.

“So to me, I got the best of it. I got the last laugh at the end of the day.”

Ahh, but the day hasn’t ended quite yet Mr. Smith.  The DawgPound will be looking forward to greeting you tomorrow as well, sir, and I think Alex Mack just might have something for you too.  So how about we hold off on tallying up those “last laughs” until at least Monday at the soonest.  Go Browns.
