The Colts have a legitimate shot at catapulting into the top tier of offenses next season. We all know Andrew Luck is great, and he’s going to be even better in his third year. Likewise, T.Y. Hilton’s explosion onto the scene only marks the beginning of his full potential. Add that with the return of Reggie Wayne and Dwayne Allen from injury, and the list of options for Luck only continues to grow. That being said, if there is a chance for the Colts to make a big move and sign one more explosive threat, now is the time. Heading into free agency, the Colts need to make Eric Decker one of their top priorities. The fact is that even if Wayne can still put up the numbers, at 35, the future hall of famer is nearing the end of his career. The Colts need to start building around the long-term future of Luck, which sadly won’t include Wayne. If the Colts were able to grab Decker in free agency, who has had at least 85 receptions, 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns in the last two years, they would lockup a passing corps that could last for a decade-plus. It seems that many are questioning whether Decker can truly be a number one receiver, but the numbers would make that argument void. At 6-foot-3-inches, with a 4.4-forty time, Decker is a powerful threat on the field. Similarly, just looking at his 32 touchdowns over the past three years should tell you all you need to know about his red zone presence. It’s true that Peyton Manning has played out of his mind the last two seasons in Denver, but the abilities of his wide receivers have played a major role in that. If the Colts want to maximize the capabilities of Luck, they too need to surround him with elite receiving talent. There are definitely some other pressing needs that the Colts need to take care of, but they shouldn’t let this opportunity simply pass them by. Like this?
