The Denver Broncos have been full throttle since the free agency period began on Thursday. Now the question is, who will be behind center when training camp begins? The latest Bronco victim tagged with trade rumors is third year quarterback, Trevor Siemian.

This trade rumor has gained traction with the announcement that the Dallas Cowboys would be releasing or trading  quarterback, Tony Romo. The Denver Broncos were immediately considered a landing spot because of the move made in 2012 to acquire Peyton Manning.

Siemian began his starting quarterback tenure in 2016 when he started 14 games for the Denver Broncos. The Northwestern product passed for 3400 yards and 18 touchdowns in his first year as a starting quarterback. Siemian started the season strong by helping the Broncos win their first four games. In week four, Siemian was sacked and taken out of the game with a severe shoulder injury. The young quarterback returned in week six but would leave the lineup again in week 13 with a foot injury.

With an injury plagued season, Siemian was still able to lead the Denver Broncos to a nine win season. Not to shabby for a first year quarterback. Siemian just happened to be behind an offensive line that ranked in the top five for sacks allowed in the league. Not to mention a running game that was ranked 27th for the 2016 season.

Should the Broncos trade Siemian?

Absolutely not. We can agree that a nine win season is not the standard for a team coming off a championship year but have we really seen the best version of Trevor Siemian? When healthy, Siemian performed pretty well for a first year quarterback. I can’t blame the offensive line for every bad throw but the sack number was too high to be able to see Siemian’s potential.
