The Packers might be looking to upgrade their run game in 2012.  The Packers need to add a big bruising back to help get those tough yards on 3rd down.  The Packers normally don’t spend money on free agents, but Raiders running back Michael Bush is hitting free agency and could be the perfect fit for what the Packers are looking for. The Packers had the 27th ranked rushing attack in 2011 and in their playoff loss to the Giants; Aaron Rodgers was the teams leading rusher which isn’t a good thing. When things are not going right in the passing game, having the ability to run the ball is the difference between winning games and losing games. The current stable of Packer running backs includes Ryan Grant, James Starks and John Kuhn and none of them have the ability to be the featured back. Bush would instantly upgrade this unit from below average to above average and be the work horse the Packers need. The only 2 things that could keep the Packers from signing Bush is his age (27) and t...

Could Matt Flynn throw a wrench in April’s NFL draft?

Whether Peyton Manning remains an Indianapolis Colt or not is irrelevant when it comes to the future of the franchise.  This offseason Indianapolis will choose who they hope will be their quarterback for the next 10-15 seasons.  Maybe it’s Andrew Luck out of Stanford.  Maybe it’s Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III.  Either is a reasonable No. 1 overall pick and no one...

NFC North Watch: Laying the Offseason Groundwork

So as we’re painfully aware, it’s the offseason. Which means sometimes there isn’t enough Bears news to go around, so we’re going to keep an eye or two or three (wait what?) scattered around the division. “Know thy enemy” is a very sage piece of wisdom in any competitive endeavor, and it continues to hold true in football, so as we started doing on a near-weekly basis...

Packers, C Scott Wells Likely Will Part Ways

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Packers will most likely be parting ways with C Scott Wells. McGinn mentions that the organization has been “low-balling” Wells with their recent offers which could leave the two sides in a fairly contentious situation. Wells, 31, is coming off of his first Pro Bowl appearance and has put together three straight solid...

Wells, Packers could be headed for divorce

Packers center Scott Wells is coming off his best season at age 31 and has plenty of leverage. It sounds like he intends on using it. Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel makes the convincing case Tuesday that the newly minted Pro Bowler is likely to leave Green Bay in free agency. Wells and the…

Finley franchise-tag fight still looms

We reported during the season that the Packers and tight end Jermichael Finley eventually could find themselves in a fight regarding the question of whether, for the purposes of the franchise tag, Finley is a tight end or a wide receiver. With the franchise tender for tight ends expected to be in the range of…

Since Rodgers wears No. 12, the state Assembly has selected December 12, 2012. Yep.  12/12/12. The measure now moves to the Wisconsin Senate. Meanwhile, Brett Favre may want to know why they didn’t…
