As many problems as the Rams have had over the past 10 years, the one position where they’ve been consistently above-average, if not excellent, is running back.
After bidding adieu to longtime Ram Steven Jackson, the Rams discovered a diamond in the rough in rookie Zac Stacy last season. Stacy nearly broke the 1,000 yard barrier despite starting just 12 games and projects as the clear-cut starter for the Rams going into the 2014 season.
However, running backs get hurt at an alarming rate in the NFL, meaning it can never hurt to have young, cheap talent in place to provide some depth should Stacy go down. In that spirit, here are the top 10 running backs according to our cover32.com editors.
The Rams have four other running backs on the roster in addition to Stacy, including Benny Cunningham, Isaiah Pead, Daryl Richardson and Chase Reynolds. Out of those four, only Cunningham contributed to the offense in any meaningful way last season. Don’t be surprised if the Rams try to find yet another diamond in the rough running back in the later rounds this May.
