Just when it looked like everything was going the Patriots way, something sports fans worry about happened. Sports Illustrated has put Tom Brady on the cover.
The Sports Illustrated cover jinx is well known throughout America as it has taken down many great teams and players. Since 1954, Sports Illustrated has been featuring athletes on the cover of their magazine and the curse has been working its magic. It started in August of 1954 when Milwaukee Braves hall of fame third baseman Eddie Matthews was on the cover. After being the first athlete to appear on the cover, the Braves snapped a nine game winning streak and Matthews broke his hand missing seven games. The cover jinx entered the NFL in July of 1984 when Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Jack Lambert was on the cover with the headline “The Man of Steel”.
