After three bad plays led to two Steelers touchdowns and also took points off the board, Bengals special teams coach Darrin Simmons assessed what went wrong in the 35-7 loss and was ready to move on.
âIâve been in this business long enough to know youâre going to have those days. Itâs never acceptable. The thing you canât let it do is define you,â Simmons said.
The thing that made this worse though was a series of errors. It all began with a delay of game penalty on Mike Nugent’s 28-yard field goal attempt which caught everyone by surprise. Nugent said that the operation of the entire play went well and that there was nothing out of the ordinary.
“It wasn’t something I was anticipating. I don’t have an answer for that one,” Simmons said. I didn’t feel anything was slow. I know sometimes it takes the referees awhile because they have to shuffle the K ball in. Sometimes it takes longer than others. I don’t know if it was the case on this play....
