Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Pat Sims knows how difficult it is to sack Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
For five years the former Cincinnati Bengal tried, mostly in vain, to get Roethlisberger down. In eight games against the 6-foot-5 quarterback, Sims had 1 1-2 sacks and watched as Big Ben led Pittsburgh to a trio of playoff berths.
Roethlisberger's been sacked 22 times this season, tied for seventh-most in the NFL.
Sims, who signed with Oakland in the offseason, is looking forward to getting another shot at Roethlisberger and would love nothing better than to have his first sack with the Raiders come against his longtime rival.
With only seven sacks in the last four games, Oakland's defense overall needs to improve its pass rush.

When Pittsburgh Steelers right tackle Marcus Gilbert left the game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens after just seven offensive snaps with a quad injury, everyone held their breath when Guy Whimper replaced him. Whimper, however, played extremely well and played a big role in the team rushing for a season-high 141 yards. As far as his pass protection went, Whimper only allowed...
This Sunday, the Oakland Raiders (2-4) take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4) at O.co Coliseum. With both teams having the same record, the loser of this weekend’s game is likely to lose their hopes for the playoffs. But after a week off for their bye, will the Oakland Raiders be ready to attack the Steelers’ strong offense?

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward returned a squibed kickoff at the end of the first half Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens and if you missed it, you likely missed the final one of his career.
According to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, head coach Mike Tomlin no longer wishes to see Heyward imitate his late father, former NFL running back Craig “Ironhead”...
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin called rookie RB Le'Veon Bell "great" for his play against the New York Jets, when he gained just 34 yards on 16 carries. Against the Ravens, Bell ran for 93 yards on 19 carries and Tomlin wanted to nip the hype in the bud by inquiring in the middle of his postgame news conference if anyone had any questions about Bell.
Darren McFadden owners beware, the back who has been ultimately useless this year in fantasy says you need to start him. @VicTafur: #Raiders Darren McFadden’s been held to 90 yards on 33 carries last 3 games. But after bye, he feels “as good as you can this time of year.” I think McFadden is due, […]
The Oakland Raiders Friday injury report is now in and it indeed looks like they will be without the services of several offensive linemen for the Sunday game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Guard Andre Gurode (quadricep), tackle Tony Pashos (hip) and tackle Menelik Watson (calf) all failed to practice this week and all three are listed as doubtful on the Friday injury report. By...
William Gay's second stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers is starting to look like a better version of the first.
Gay spent five seasons with the Steelers before leaving in 2012 to play in Arizona. He returned to Pittsburgh last spring. The Steelers brought him in as insurance policy. Gay took the opportunity to become a starter.
Gay made a handful of big plays in last week&...
Stefen Wisniewski looks to be the only lineman ready to return when the Raiders come back from their bye, but considering the opposition, it's like a cavalry charge.
Wisniewski's presence at center Sunday against Pittsburgh should enhance the Raiders' blocking as a whole and have them better equipped to face the myriad zone blitz combinations of Steelers defensive coordinator...
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker Jarvis Jones was forced to sit out the Sunday game against the Baltimore Ravens because of a concussion, but according to Missi Matthews of steelers.com, the Georgia product says he will be a full practice participant on Wednesday.
Jarvis says he will be a full participant at practice today.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have put the wraps on their final practice before traveling out west to play the Oakland Raiders and the final injury report of the week has been released.
Guard Ramon Foster (thumb) was added to the report on Friday with a thumb injury, but practiced fully and is listed as probable.
Also listed as probable and practicing fully on Friday are tackle Kelvin...
At 2-4, every game is a must-win at least until the Steelers get their heads above water. They need to string together a lot of wins to build back the positive momentum. We know the "one game at a time" cliche gets tossed around and that's good stuff for the locker room, but for us we have the luxury of seeing the bigger picture.
The Raiders game this Sunday presents...
As with any big business, philanthropy is highly important, not only for drawing fans but also for showing interest in a specific community. The Oakland Raiders have always been known for giving back to the community, but this year they’ve developed a new innovative program called “First and Goal Kids.”
First and Goal Kids kicked off with Oakland’s first game of the season...

Although Jim Wexell Tweeted out just prior to the game to look for Mike Adams at tight end, the fact that he actually played tight end—and significantly—for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Baltimore Ravens this past week was probably somewhat surprising to most people. Even I was somewhat surprised, and I had written about the possibility of it occurring...
