It was as if he hadn't missed a thing. When Derrick Mason finally hit the practice field for the Ravens today, he hit it with an infectious smile, and his usual expertise.
"He looks good," wide receivers coach Jim Hostler said after Mason's first workout. "He's always in shape, so we never had any fear that coming back he'd be ready to go. He's the kind of guy, even at his age, he can run all day."
Hostler said he was surprised when Mason showed up on Saturday, mainly because he adopted the mantra that he coaches the players who are in camp and doesn't worry about the ones who aren't. But Hostler left no doubt he was happy to see the 13-year veteran.
"He's a great pro, he's a great teammate," Hostler said. "When a guy like that comes back, it means a lot to everybody, because he's a great teammate. When he walks through the door, everybody's got a smile on their face because he's always got a...
