FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- In his 2010 season at Troy, Jonathan Massaquoi weighed about 260 pounds when he led the Sun Belt Conference with 13 sacks. Last season, Massaquoi was up to 275 pounds, and he had only six sacks. Coach Mike Smith said Saturday the Atlanta Falcons were looking for the lighter version of Massaquoi when they selected the defensive end in the fifth round of last month's NFL draft. Smith said Massaquoi's weight loss was "by design." "We felt that looking at him as a junior and then looking at his senior tape he looked to be heavier as a senior," Smith said after Saturday's practice. "He played a little bit lighter as a junior when he had more production. His weight is down and he looks a lot leaner than he did as a senior." Massaquoi, listed at 6-foot-2, said he's back at about 259 pounds and he looked lean and quick as he went through drills during Saturday's second day of the Falcons' three-day rookie...

Matt Ryan hits the gym

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is trying to achieve something that has eluded him since the start of his NFL career: win a playoff game.  So he’s been hitting the gym with a vengeance to work on his arm strength.  “I think we’re off to a good start,” said Ryan. “It’s weight training, getting in there and training with weights.  It’s learning to condition myself...

Konz impresses on 1st day of Falcons rookie camp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Coach Mike Smith likes what he's seen from one of the Atlanta Falcons' two high-profile rookie offensive linemen. Peter Konz, a second-round draft pick from Wisconsin, looked the part of a potential NFL starter as the Falcons opened a three-day rookie minicamp Friday. Unfortunately, tackle Lamar Holmes, a third-round pick from Southern Mississippi...

BEREA The Browns concluded their rookie minicamp with one practice Sunday and Pat Shurmur was pleased with what was accomplished. It was a good and productive minicamp, Shurmur said. Of course at any moment the Browns could start to pursue Burress, but right now we’re just speculating.  They clearly need a number one receiver and...

(Way too early) Atlanta Falcons 2012 Point Spreads

Earlier this week, Cantor Gaming (which runs several Vegas sportsbooks) released game by game point spreads for just about every NFL game. We understand that it's nowhere close to the season but I thought it would be interesting to take a look at where they have the Falcons slotted against their opponents as it stands right now. Odds are this place will be filled when the NFL...
