Smith says Hanie made progress

Although he lost his third consecutive start Sunday, Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie is headed in the right direction, coach Lovie Smith said. ‘‘I think it was a step forward,’’ Smith said, pointing to Hanie’s numbers. Hanie was 12-for-19 for 115 yards with no touchdowns and, more important, no interceptions in the Bears’ 13-10 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos.
