Say this for Colts WR LaVon Brazill he didn’t dodge the media today after a morning training camp walk-through at Anderson University. Brazill was swarmed by about every reporter on site. And he admitted his recent four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy came down to him needing to decide between “money or marijuana.” Not much of a choice. Seriously NFL money seems pretty obvious. That he admitted pot was what brought him down surprised me. We’re used to guys just taking the high road least said the better. But Brazill admitted he screwed up even said he didn’t take the situation seriously enough and vowed the team wouldn’t have another problem with him. The Colts better not because as he also conceded he’s basically on zero tolerance. The Colts were obviously disappointed about three players being involved in negative headlines this offseason. Reserve S Joe Lefeged has a court case pending for gun charges after he allegedly fled police. Brazill got suspended for the first four games. Blocking tight end Weslye Saunders got hit with an eight-game suspension and the Colts made the expected decision to jettison him just before camp began. Brazill is vying for the Colts’ fourth WR spot behind Reggie Wayne Darrius Heyward-Bey and T.Y. Hilton. That means his roster spot isn’t a given. You’re a few drops or mistakes away from a team giving up on you. And Brazill has made his share of mistakes on and off the field. So we’ll see how it plays out. While Brazill and other athletes will say it’s in the past it really isn’t. It’s in the present and could impact the future.
