Back in October as Rex Ryan’s New York Jets were preparing to face off against the San Diego Chargers, Ryan made a statement to the press that he would probably have a “couple of rings” by now if he had inherited the talent that Norv Turner had when Turner was hired as San Diego’s coach. Rex quickly retracted the statement then promptly coached his team to a victory over the Turner-led Chargers. Now many people will point to Rex Ryan’s Super Bowl “predictions” over the past couple of years and easily dismiss anything he has to say about the subject but watching the San Diego Chargers’ six-game meltdown has to make you wonder; could Ryan have done it better? Or better yet, could a Ryan do it better? Norv Turner is on his way out as head coach of the Chargers. It’s inevitable and there really isn’t anything he can do at his point to keep his job short of black-mailing his team’s owner with some incriminating photos or something.  Regardless of what his team does the rest of the season they are virtually out of the playoff race and have underachieved on both sides of the ball all season [...]

Can Rex Ryan’s Defense Rise Up?

Despite the reputation of the New York Jets, when you look at the current roster it is pretty clear that there is more talent on the offensive side of the football than the defensive side. The success of the Jets defense in recent years has been a testament to Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine. Right now this unit, has a good, deep defensive line rotation. One great linebacker, surrounded...

Report: Norv Turner, General Manager A.J. Smith to Be Fired at End of Season

Seemingly every season during his tenure as head coach of the San Diego Chargers, Norv Turner has faced questions of job security. Every season, it's all amounted to just talk, until now. Turner and general manager A.J. Smith are likely to to fired at the end of the season, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. President Dean Spanos says he has "no choice" but to fire...

It's Not Norv's Fault

It’s not his fault. Norv Turner is not a bad coach. Take a breath. Calm down. Let me finish. The demise of the San Diego Chargers is not all Norv’s fault. Sure, he contributed to it in his own way. And he has hardly proven to be a great coach, someone who can make a bad team good or a good... //

Ryan looks to defend to end

The Jets defense may not be playing up to the standards of the last two seasons but Rex Ryan still says he wouldn’t trade it for any other.

History suggests it will be hard for Rex & Co. to Capitolize vs. NFC East

LANDOVER, Md. — Rex Ryan has taken great pleasure across his first two-plus years in charge of the Jets in trying to distance himself from the ghosts that have haunted the franchise so often in the past. For decades, the Jets were saddled with a reputation for being awful season closers...

Game Snapshot, Wk. 13: Chargers-Jaguars

This week is not about getting back in the playoff hunt. It is not about saving Norv Turner's job. It is about trying to win a football game, something the Chargers have not done since Oct. 9. Will it finally happen on Monday Night Football? To set the table for this game, we go over team reports, personnel updates and keys to the game.

Gotta Ask the Boss

I’d like to get him around here more … I’m going to try to keep him here, but we’ll see if his wife will let him.” – Rex Ryan on Tom Moore’s time with the team to the Star-Ledger

Despite Crackdown on Vicious Hits, Unsportsmanlike Conduct Still Persists in NFL

By: Rich Bergeron ‘ We’ve seen a crotch kick, an arm stomp, late hits, helmet to helmet launches, and even Jets Coach Rex Ryan cursing at spectators. Flags are flying on NFL fields from coast to coast this year for questionable hits, and the old highlight reel collisions are no longer legal. Players are still getting hurt, and many are playing hurt. From Cowboy QB Tony Romo taking...

NFL Weekly Predictions: Week 13

The Packers face the struggling Giants at MetLife Stadium, and the Tim Tebow Express heads to Minnesota. The flex schedule "circle jerks" the Colts/Patriots game, and it's Norv Turner, not Nick Novak, who really has to go in San Diego.

Working Through the Kinks

FLORHAM PARK–Offensive consultant Tom Moore made an appearance today. Moore usually works from home, but has several scheduled visits during the year and today was one of them. Moore was first brought to the team at the end of July and spent the entire training camp with the team in Florham Park. Both Rex Ryan and Brian Schottenheimer like having Moore in town for face-to-face...
