TEAMS: Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens
IRVING, Texas I'm not certain where the story of free-agent receiver Steve Breaston being coveted by the Dallas Cowboys as a "third receiver'' came from. But I know where the story should go: The circular file.
Dallas has "zero interest'' in the seven-year veteran, a team source tells me.
Breaston, 29, was cut by the Chiefs last week and is reportedly involved in talks with the Browns and Steelers. But despite a flood of national and local reports to the contrary, Dallas has no involvement here.
It's a "trash-can'' story.
The primary reason the source gives me for Dallas' lack of interest is basic: The Cowboys, 20 million over the cap, are not in shopping mode. Two other factors: One the Cowboys believe they are developing third-receiver candidates such as Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley to play behind starters Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. And two, there is a quiet and league-wide doubt that Breaston who caught just seven passes all last season in Kansas City has overcome knee issues.
But back to the central point: This goes for the dream of Chicago defensive tackle Henry Melton (a DFW-area native), it goes for sexy ideas about Baltimore safety Ed Reed, and it goes and it goes for less flashy ideas like New England guard Donald Thomas. There are no sources inside Valley Ranch who will whisper about free-agency shopping lists because at this time, no free-agency shopping list is realistic.

1. Offensive Line
Tyron Smith and Nate Livings have the left side of the Dallas Cowboys line under control, but the other three positions are up for grabs.
