According to a source, veteran Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light is officially retired.
The Patriots have apparently taken the step of adding him to the reserve/retired list, making his retirement official at least on the team level. This currently frees up about $5 Million in cap space and opens up a roster spot.
This comes as no surprise as rumors have been swirling around for months of his eminent retirement.
It’s still possible that Light changes his mind. All he would have to do is notify them.
The NFL announced an expansion of 90 roster spots just yesterday, so you can see why the Patriots would do this in anticipation of the draft. Unsigned players would count against this roster limit.

FOXBORO, Mass. -- Tom Brady's presence at the Patriots' voluntary workouts has taken on some additional meaning this month. Obviously, the entire team views Brady as the ultimate on-field leader, but his attendance over the last two weeks has been significant for a team that is less than three months removed from its loss in Super Bowl XLVI. "Most importantly, this is...
Tom Brady's Presence at Patriots' Voluntary Workouts Serves As Positive on Multiple Levels - New England Patriots - NESN.com
Offensive lineman Matt Light officially retired on Tuesday when the New England Patriots placed him on the reserve/retired list, ESPNBoston.com reported. The move had been expected for several weeks, but because Light is now on the reserve/retired list, he doesn't count against the Patriots' 90-man roster limit. Light theoretically could change his mind and return,...
“I was a paper boy,” said Tom Brady, according to the Boston Herald. Brady’s wife/wide receiver critic, Gisele Bundchen, responded, “How cute is that?”
No word if Brady introduced himself to everyone at the grand opening of the rag & bone boutique on Newbury Street as, “I was a paper boy,” but I’d like to think he did.

Big news out of Boston this afternoon concerning what is possibly bothering Kevin Youkilis this season. The guy is off to a smoking hot 8-for-46 start (.174) with only two doubles. Bobby Valentine called out the guy and the next thing you know all hell is breaking loose. Now comes news that Youk and Tom Brady’s sister, Julie, got married in a very small wedding last week. Why...
Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis and Julie Brady, the sister of the Patriots' star quarterback, have tied the knot in a quiet ceremony.
After more than a year of dating, the couple were married Thursday at their Weston, Mass., home in front of immediate family.
"It was definitely the greatest off day of my life," Youkilis told WAAF radio station.
The day has come when the Indianapolis Colts finally get to cash in for winning the Suck for Luck sweepstakes. Sure, it took the most painful season in recent Colts’ history to get here. Sure you had to get rid of the most important player in the history of your franchise. Sure have to put up with @JimIrsay’s incessant tweeting. But you still get the best QB draft prospect in...
When you think of the NFL Draft, guys like Eli Manning, Ndamukong Suh, and late-round steals like Tom Brady usually come to mind. As yet another batch of college stars come into the league, every fan hopes that their team avoids the dreaded pick that ends up flaming out, potentially setting a team back years [...]
Joe Montana, John Elway, Jim Kelly,Peyton Manning, Tom Brady. Usually an NFL team considers themselves lucky to land a Hall of Fame quarterback, but it rarely happens where the luck continues and you have the ability to draft one just after releasing another. For the Indianapolis Colts that is reality as they make Andrew Luck the number one overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
Doesn’t it seem like the New England Patriots go out of their way EVERY season to trade down and acquire more picks? Every year, they’re a fun team to watch on draft day, because they always seem to end up with more picks than anyone else. In 2012, even more so, because they have four picks in the first two rounds.
And even though they were just one Wes Welker drop, or perhaps...
