San Diego Chargers Special Teams Coach Steve Crosby will not have his contract renewed to coach next season. He has coached the Chargers for nine seasons, but this year his special teams unit had the WORST season in NFL history.

“We appreciate Steve’s hard work and dedication to this team over the past nine seasons,” Chargers coach Norv Turner

The Chargers’ special teams unit has allowed a punt return for a touchdown, 3 kickoff returns for a touchdown, and 4 blocked punts. Punter Mike Scifres was getting killed trying to get punts off and we wondered if he would be able to last the whole season without getting injured. General Manager AJ Smith had to sign multiple players during the season to try and fix the issues. The Special Teams also used starters on offense and defense in order to help.

The Chargers finished the season with the number 1 ranked offense and number 1 ranked defense and still missed the playoffs. Many of the special teams problems contributed to losses that kept the Chargers out of the playoffs.

In other Chargers coaching news, defensive coordinator Ron Rivera was given permission to interview with the Carolina Panthers for their head coaching position.
