With rumors circulating about the Buffalo Bills future, one local media member has said team officials are going through a vetting process to find a possible new owner.

According to Ed Kilgore, WGRZ sports director, multiple groups are have expressed their desire to purchase the team if current owner Ralph Wilson passes away. Kilgore, in a blog posted on WGRZ’s website, said team officials would love to have former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly as a part of an ownership group because it would mean the team would stay in Buffalo.

Kilgore also said deep pockets doesn’t necessarily mean interested people can purchase a football team.

“I'm told some of the groups who've made it known they're interested don't have a clue  as to how to go about buying an NFL team and are way out of their league even  though they have substantial financial backing,” Kilgore said.

“However, there are at least two or three groups who not only have the financial portfolio buy the Bills, but who want to keep the team in Buffalo for many years to come.”

The future of the Buffalo Bills, Kilgore said, depends on the construction of a new stadium.

“Still, even with a new owner with lots of money and good intentions, there is no guarantee at all the Bills will eventually get the new stadium they need to survive well into the future,” Kilgore said.

Kilgore also said he has been told the NFL is not looking at Toronto as a possible site for a NFL team for the time being, citing complications with the CFL and other reasons.

But, Kilgore said it’s important to also remember the team could stay in Buffalo and not move anywhere.

“To sum it up, the Bills could wind up staying around Buffalo for many years to come, but the best thing is for all of us to pray for Ralph C. Wilson to stick around for many more years,” Kilgore said.
