In his Tuesday column, Sports Illustrated's David Sabino ranked Cam Newton and Steve Smith as the fourth best fantasy tandem in the NFL. Only Drew Brees/Jimmy Graham, Tom Brady/Rob Gronkowski and Matthew Stafford/Calvin Johnson were ranked ahead of the Carolina Panthers duo.

While these may only be "fantasy rankings," Newton and Smith are the only pair on the list that were a part of a losing team last season. That's a pretty good omen for the Panthers in 2012. Here's what Sabino said about the Newton-to-Smith connection:

"A realistic pairing that you can possibly create without involving your first-round pick, Carolina's explosive pitch-catch combo are two of the league's most physical gifted individuals. Newton's ability to score touchdowns on the ground himself makes him a top-10 overall pick in my estimation. And when he throws you can be sure most of the time the speedy and physical Smith will be the target, as he was 129 times last season. Some questionable defenses in Tampa and New Orleans makes this pair one to covet."

Here are the rest of Sabino's rankings:

5) Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers

6) Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, New York Giants

7) Drew Brees and Darren Sproles New Orleans Saints

8) Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, Houston Texans

9) Jay Culter and Brandon Marshall, Chicago Bears

10) Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos
