The Cincy Enquirer reports that SS Chinedum Ndukwe is hoping to still be in the Bengals future despite being hurt last season.
The Bengals did not tender an offer to impending free-agent SS Chinedum Ndukwe (knee) but he hopes to re-sign with the team once free agency begins and he’s making progress from surgery he had to repair a torn medial collateral ligament. In four seasons, Ndukwe has started 31 games, including six last year (two at strong safety and four at free safety).
The Bengals did draft Robert Sands in the fifth round, but they still might be light on experience with Roy Williams and Gibril Wilson also unrestricted free agents while Chris Crocker, who has two years remaining on his contract, is also coming off a knee injury and Reggie Nelson is entering the final year of his deal. As the Bengals showed last year, not tendering someone is not the end. Less than two weeks into free agency last year, they re-signed tight end Dan Coates after not extending an original offer. “By no means has the rehab been easy. I’ve done a lot and put in a lot of work,” Ndukwe said. “I’m going to be playing next year for sure. Hopefully it’s with Cincinnati but if it’s not I’m looking to win wherever it is.”
