St. Louis Rams
When the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams face off in Sunday's preseason opener at Lucas Oil Stadium, the matchup will showcase two franchises trying to rebuild the dominance that made each perennial Super Bowl contenders. While the Rams makeover hasn't been as drastic as that of the Colts, both squads feature new head coaches and personnel trying to establish themselves.
The Rams makeover at quarterback predates what the Colts are experiencing now. After Kurt Warner departed in 2003, the Rams struggled to compete with Marc Bulger at the helm. Finally, in 2010, the Rams used the number one overall draft pick to take Sam Bradford from Oklahoma. Bradford responded, guiding the Rams to their first divisional title since Warner left and taking home NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
With Bradford injured most of 2011, the Rams slumped again, finishing 2-14, tied with the Colts for the NFL's worst record. That finish also spelled the end of Steve Spagnuolo...

MLB James Laurinaitis
Laurinaitis is a good linebacker, but the linebacker franchise tag value (8.8 million in 2012) is inflated by the salaries of rush linebackers and thus non-rush linebackers rarely get tagged. After an offseason in which Curtis Lofton, Stephen Tulloch, and David Hawthorne got 27.5 million, 25.5 million, and 19 million respectively over 5 years, the Rams are unlikely...
Rookie Janoris Jenkins draws a vivid description of how he wants to play cornerback for the St. Louis Rams.
''I play like a ninja, an assassin,'' Jenkins said Thursday after practice at Rams Park. ''I love to be around the ball. I'm quick and physical. I just play the position with a chip on my shoulder.''
The 5-foot-10, 193-pound Jenkins has...
After extending one pillar of their defense recently, Chris Long, the Rams are currently in talks with another, James Laurinaitis, about a long term contract extension, as the 2009 2nd round pick heads into the final year of his rookie deal. He has graded out positively overall on ProFootballFocus in each of the past 3 years as a starter and ranked 14th overall among middle linebackers...
Jeff Fisher has conveyed cool, calm leadership from the start of his first training camp with the St. Louis Rams. That can't hurt a team coming off a 2-14 season.
Quarterback Sam Bradford said after Friday night's practice that Fisher, rebuilding the franchise after a year away from the NFL, has not changed a bit so far. The Rams open Sunday at Indianapolis, also coming...
Andrew Luck is playing his first preseason game with the Indianapolis Colts against the St. Louis Rams. He already threw a dump off pass for a touchdown. He just now throw for his second touchdown to Austin Collie. The former Stanford Cardinal is really having a breakout first game performance. Luck connected with Austin Collie for the score. Indianapolis is up 14 on the Rams....
The second Sunday in the NFL will be a matchup of two teams that are expected to improve in the 2012 season. Although it’s preseason football the Rams and the Colts will be looking to impress on the field and show improvements from a dismal year ago.
I won my first pick of the season with the Bolts and the Packers, and have this game covered from top-to bottom. The NFL Preseason...
St. Louis: A slightly improved offensive line with Scott Wells gave Sam Bradford more time; after giving up 55 sacks a year ago, Bradford was comfortable under center, hardly using shotgun during his first couple drives.
Despite going 7-for-9, Bradford still makes high throws when rushed.
The backup line struggled in pass blocking for Kellen Clemens, nearly getting...
I will not make sweeping generalizations after one preseason game. I will not make sweeping generalizations after one preseason game.

Well Rams fans, the good news from today's 38-3 crashdown against Andrew Luck and the Colts was that we aren't going to have another 4-0 preseason to falsely raise our preseason expectations...
According to the Washington Times offensive coordinator Bruce Arians told the media that Andrew Luck won't be making an extended appearance in the first preseason game today against St. Louis:
On Monday, Arians told reporters Luck likely would play 20 to 25 plays against the St. Louis Rams. That’s comparable to the number of plays four-time MVP Peyton Manning got in his first...

The real deal
Andrew Luck. Yes, he is as good as everyone said he was. And even better. I can only come up with, perhaps 4 teams that WOULDN’T, in a heartbeat, trade their QB for Luck, right now. And another 4 that would give it serious thought. He might not (yet) have the weapons around...
