The first round of the 2013 NFL Draft is in the books, and the Rams once again showed us that they are willing to move all over the place in the first round to get the guys they want. Ultimately, the team settled on West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin and Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree.
Both players provide excellent athleticism and speed to the Rams on offense and defense respectively and they were both outstanding acquisitions by the Rams.
Now we move on to day two. The Rams had to give up a lot to get Tavon Austin, the most notable of these losses was a second round draft pick. They were able to recoup some of those losses though when they picked up an additional third round pick by trading back with the Falcons later in the draft and then snatching up Ogletree.
There are some rumors around that the Rams could try to trade back up into the second round to acquire a player like an Eddie Lacy at running back or a Jonathan Cyprien at safety, but for now let's just look...

In a room above the heads of reporters who had just watched the St. Louis Rams take Tavon Austin with the eight pick of the 2013 NFL Draft, the men who made that news happen were celebrating loudly upstairs.

The Rams obtained the pick from Washington and the Robert Griffin III trade. The team figure it would be a higher pick as Washington wasn’t very good in 2011, however, the emergence of RG3 and his...

The St. Louis Rams traded up with the Buffalo Bills to select WR Tavon Austin with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Those reports obviously became true. Photo Credit...
Former West Virginia inside receiver Tavon Austin was selected No. 8 overall by the St. Louis Rams last night in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Rams traded up eight spots to get arguably the most electrifying player in the draft.
Many WVU fans thought it was likely that Austin would land in the top 10, following many positive visits with NFL teams these past few months...
After making noise early in the first round by trading their No. 16 overall pick with the Buffalo Bills to select electrifying wide receiver Tavon Austin at No. 8 overall, the St. Louis Rams made even more noise by trading down from its No. 22 pick by sending it to Atlanta in exchange for the Falcons No. 30 pick in the first round.

Many speculated before the NFL Draft began whether the St. Louis Rams would be aggressive and trade-up to select an impact play-maker. Of course, the impact play-maker the Rams were looking at was wide receiver Tavon Austin out of West Virginia.
That is exactly how it played out on Thursday night as the Rams traded up to No. 8 overall and swapped first round picks with the Buffalo...

St. Louis owns the No. 16 and No. 22 overall picks in tonight's draft. According to value charts, the Rams' two picks could fetch them a top-five overall selection if packaged together. There are at least two teams in those top selections...
West Virginia's Tavon Austin was the first skill player taken in the 2013 NFL Draft.Fantasy Spin:The Rams grabbed him off the board at pick No. 8. Austin gives QB Sam Bradford a reliable weapon in the receiving game, which is something the Rams desperately needed following the departures of Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson this offseason.
The St. Louis Rams got help for quarterback Sam Bradford,

What caught my eye from day one of the 2013 NFL Draft?
Here are my winners, losers, and general thoughts from Thursday night.
St. Louis Rams- When you looked at the Rams needs coming into the draft there were four positions that screamed for help: WR, OG, S, LB.
Well the Rams went ahead and took care of the wide receiver and linebacker need, and did so with the best athletes...
There is one thing that is always unpredictable when it comes to trying to forecast the NFL draft. Team needs are easily identified and news leaks of players going to a particular team, but one thing you can rarely see coming is a trade. The when, who and where in the draft almost always blow up mock drafts. Mine was no different. But even with the surprises, my mock got five players...
