The Rams filled two roles earlier this week with the signing of running back Cadillac Williams and linebacker Brady Poppinga.
Cadillac Williams will be the Rams main backup to starter Steven Jackson, and Ram fans should be satisfied with this pickup. Williams brings with him the experience and skill you want to see in a backup and should fill the role far better than last year’s backup Kenneth Darby. He won’t dazzle you during his playing time, but he is solidly built at 5’11 and 217 lbs and he’ll provide tough carry after tough carry. Coming out of the backfield, he can have a small impact catching passes, but the role of spreading the field via passes to the halfback will likely fall upon the shoulders of Jerious Norwood. Williams will be the gritty, in-between the tackle runner the Rams will turn to when Jackson needs a breather.
