Quarterback Drew Stanton is ready for a new start in another new city. The career backup says he's eager to get acclimated with his Colts teammates, learn another playbook and perhaps battle for a starting job. His comments come four days after being traded from the New York Jets to the Indianapolis Colts, his third team in less than two months. Stanton notes the strange twists went full circle. Peyton Manning was released by the Colts on March 7 and signed last week with Denver. The Broncos then traded last year's starter, Tim Tebow, to the Jets, and the Jets traded Stanton, who had recently signed a one-year contract to backup Mark Sanchez, to Indy. Stanton says he's excited to work with new offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.

Stanton's done this before

Drew Stanton knows what it's like to get in on the ground floor of a team rebuild. He also knows what it's like to take a backseat to a number one draft pick: “I think that allows us to all grow together as a core unit,” Stanton said. “I was part of that with (Lions coach) Jim Schwartz when he got to Detroit. Our offense was able to progress over three years. You...

Fans send Irsay a message

Our own Nate Dunlevy says that the news about season ticket renewals was a clear message to owner Jim Irsay: Going into last season, the Colts had a waiting list of more than 9,000. That vast majority of those on the list should be able to claim seats this season. For long-time season ticket holders (like myself), the exodus represents an opportunity to improve seat location in...

Colts Awarded Three Compensatory Picks for 2012 NFL Draft

Every year, the NFL awards teams compensatory picks based upon their free agency losses in the previous year's offseason. The NFL announced the 2012 picks on Monday, based on teams' losses in the 2011 (shortened) offseason.  First reported by Mike Chappell, the Colts will receive three compensatory picks in the 2012 NFL Draft:  The final pick in the 5th round (170th...

Ryan Grigson: Dwight Freeney will be a Colt in 2012

According to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star, Colts general manager Ryan Grigson made it clear that defensive end Dwight Freeney won’t be going anywhere, despite reports that they were looking to trade him at one point. It’s believed that the Colts were unable to trade the 32 year-old Freeney because he’s due to make $14 million in 2012, which is the final year of his...

Freeney stays...for now

Ryan Grigson has said the Colts have no interest in separating with Dwight Freeney.  Of course if you look at the calendar you may note we are approaching the peak of "Liars' Season" as we approach the draft. If anyone tells the truth about personnel matters these days it's only within their own warroom. Nate Dunlevy agrees and points out just how difficult it...

Jim Irsay says they still don’t know who they’ll draft first overall

According to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay it’s not a forgone conclusion that they’ll draft quarterback Andrew Luck with the first overall pick. “It’s up in the air,” Irsay told USA Today. “We have to look at this thing completely open-minded. “You have two outstanding athletes, two great pure passers, two guys from families that are incredible.” It’s great...

Indianapolis Colts decide to keep DE Dwight Freeney

Despite stories which have surfaced, claiming the opposite, the Indianapolis Colts organization said on Monday that the franchise was not going to trade DE Dwight Freeney this year. That comes as a bit of a surprise given the state of the organization currently and Freeney’s age. Still a productive player, Freeney was a prime candidate to be moved due to the $19 million...

Dwight Freeney has $2.2 million stolen from his bank account.

Normally, financial advisers are the ones you depend on to help efficiently manage your funds, especially NFL players who usually possess large amounts of cash. According to reports from TMZ and Black Sports Online, $2.2 million dollars has been stolen over a period of time from Freeney by his financial advisers. The complete details from TMZ and BSO are below: According to the Federal...

Adviser accused of stealing $2.2 million from Colts DE Sweeney

Dwight Freeney's financial adviser and her lover were arrested on charges of stealing $2.2 million from the Indianapolis Colts' defensive end. Eva Weinberg and Michael Stern were arrested last week by the FBI on federal wire fraud charges. Henry Bell, an attorney for Stern, denied that his client and Weinberg stole the money from Freeney. Weinberg, who served as Freeney...

Fake Luck jerseys for sale

Andrew Luck hasn't even been drafted, but it hasn't stopped a website for putting up images of an Indianapolis Colts jersey bearing Luck's name and college number 12. NFLteamedgestore.com has the jersey, but you have to figure it's a fake since Luck hasn't even been assigned a team or number.  “I can tell you it’s not authorized by the Colts,” said...

Colts won’t begin contract negotiations with the first overall pick before the draft

In the past, teams that have held the first overall pick in the NFL draft have at times started to negoiate with the player they plan on drafting, prior to the actual draft.  The Miami Dolphins did it in 2008 with offensive tackle Jake Long and signed him before the draft.  The Houston Texans also did it with defensive end Mario Williams and signed him before the 2006 draft kicked...
