If you’re wondering how long the starters will be out on the field against Denver thursday night, head coach Jason Garrett addressed the issue in his press conference this morning. “We don’t put a particular play number on it or drive number on it,” Garrett said, “but we’d like to get the first units out there and have a good couple first drives — 8, 10, 12 (plays), whatever it is — where we feel good about it and then get the second guys in there and see them work.”
The biggest concern this early in the preseason is incurring an injury to one of your starters. Garrett will make the decision based on how long the Cowboys possess the ball while their starters are in there. If they go three-and-out on their first two possession they will likely get a third. If they drive down the field and score a touchdown, they may only get one.
The staff would like to get a solid look at the young guys in camp. The Cowboys have a lot of youth and they would like to get a better read on where a lot of those players are at and whether they will be able to contribute during the season.
