The final installment of the Steelers 2012 Team Needs is Inside Linebacker.  It may seem like a back door need as of right now but when it comes to Salary Cap crunch time it may become a front line need.  The Steelers are anywhere from $22-$27 million over the cap depending upon who you talk to and have to be below the salary cap by the start of the new league year. Two players who very well could be on the chopping block are James Farrior and Larry Foote.  One or the other or even both could be cut to save in cap space.  Between the two of them the Steelers could save almost $6 million in cap space off of the number they need to get down to.  Foote would be a $3 million dollar saving if he was released.  Farrior would save the Steelers $2.8 million.  Both guys have bonus numbers which are right around a million.  So instead of paying 9 million for the two of them we could pay less then 3.  That is a much better number for guys who do not play every down.  They are splitting time w...

Hines Ward’s Future Up In Proverbial Air

Hines Ward's future with the Steelers is on the decision block and his future with the team will most likely be decided on March 1. 2012, due to a roster bonus he is due. At the Super Bowl media center Thursday, Ward was adamant that he'd be with the Steelers. It's true that in the last year of Bruce Arians' offense, Ward was devalued, but Arians is gone and that...

Steelers Round Up: Big fish, big beards and big changes

It’s Super Bowl week and it’s a shame that the Steelers aren’t there.  Next year we’ll be in New Orleans at this time prepping for the game on Sunday and winning #7.  But in the mean time the guys have kept busy.  I’ve got a lot of leftover Pro Bowl stuff as well as some other fun stuff. LaMarr Woodley was happy this week (as was The Show) about Coach Butler deciding...

The Packers promoted Tom Clements to OC today removing one more candidate from the Steelers list.  Clements was expected to replace Joe Philbin who left to go be the head coach of the Dolphins.  When it did not happen right away the possibility of him becoming the Steelers OC got larger.  That thought is over now and the Steelers will have to move forward.  The Steelers have...

Todd Haley interviews with Steelers

Apparently, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin learned enough about Todd Haley while doing homework on the former Chiefs coach to decide to learn even more about him during a face-to-face meeting. The Steelers announced on the team’s official website that Tomlin interviewed Haley on Tuesday at the practice facility in Pittsburgh. There’s some scuttlebutt in media…

Tampa Bay sets interview with Olsavsky

Jerry Olsavsky not only played nine seasons with the Steelers, he has spent the past two seasons as a defensive assistant on Mike Tomlin's staff. Had linebackers coach Keith Butler decided to go to Indianapolis as the Colts' defensive coordinator, Olsavsky, 43, would have been the likely candidate to replace him.
